I've only seen the first two seasons of FTWD! When does this torture stuff show up in the series?

In season one SPOILERS
The neighbour turns out to be a former mobster and tortures a soldier to find out why his sick wife was forcibly relocated to a military hospital. They argue about whether they should kill him but the 'hero' releases him. He later comes back and shoots not his torturer but the man's daughter, who was actually kind to him, thus proving he was a wrong un so torturing him was obviously justified with hindsight.

They then unleash a horde of zombies on the hospital so they can sneak in and release their family members while all the other patients end up dead and not a single character frets about the mass murders they've committed.

Didn't she say she would visit the mines with the cute "protectors"?
While I really dislike Droxine I suppose I should give her credit because she's willing to learn here - more than her father. She just appears so privileged earlier on in the episode so its hard for me to like her.

She never mentions protectors but she does plan to head to the mines:

DROXINE: Stratos is so pleasant and so beautiful. I think I'm afraid to leave it.
SPOCK: There is great beauty in the knowledge that lies below, and only one way to really experience it.
DROXINE: I shall go to the mines. I no longer wish to be limited to the clouds. Is your planet like this one?
SPOCK: No. No, Vulcan is quite different.
DROXINE: Someday I should like to visit it.

And I agree she deserves credit for showing some character growth from the beginning of the episode when she was completely on her father's side. "Example of hope for the younger genertion" is really the justification to even have her in the episode when it's all said and done.

They did visit a hospital in one of the series but I can't remember any torture except by the policeman keeping everyone hostage at the hospital. Was it here - maybe I've forgotten it. I can't see past Season 5 of Walking Dead. It makes me depressed. Although I think its a great series.

I'm a big fan of The Walking Dead but I think some stuff in it has gone too far! what is 'okay' to show in comics is definitely not okay for television! Besides nine years is a helluva long time to stay on the air as well!

Sorry I thought you were talking about Walking Dead not Fear the Walking Dead.
I suppose the point of the Walking Dead series and its spin-offs is to show how far people will go to stay alive. I don't think there are any heroes left after what they've all been through and done.

This week, Star Trek does Metropolis!

Decent concept, poor execution, it gets a bit boring at times with the padding for time in the extended beaming sequences and very meh fisticuffs, and while Spock's little interlude is unique it's literally just wasted time in which he's only saying the exact thing we've been seeing on screen. I'm inclined to give it a pass for the subject matter's increasing relevance in the world today, and even without that Vanna kinda saves it by being one of the few really good strong female characters, but it's one of those I enjoy more as a what could have been episode, instead of what is.

Spock's bizarre unSpock-like behaviour can be explained away as him taking Bones' "you'll never know love" speech and the hippie influence from the past two weeks under consideration and trying something new. Didn't take though.

Vanna was awesome.

I really liked her. In particular, her scene at the end, where she's gloating about her victory over Plasus and proudly wearing her Troglyte gear, is great. And then she successfully mediates a truce between Kirk and Plasus. Loved it.

"The Savage Curtain", Episode 77, March 7th

Tonight's Episode: Horta's distant cousins have a rather weird take on the concept of a Wax Museum.

I have a real soft spot for this one. The competition feels rushed. I would not have minded if it had been a two parter with more characters on the planet, more like the Galileo 7.

Uhura's comments about stripping words of their power to offend remains a pertinent message today .

Yarnek is spectacular. The historical figures are all nicely conceived and executed. The planet set is nice. The story and the plot are total rubbish.

Uhura's line about not fearing words in the future is nice in response to Lincoln's faux pas. I realize that I sort of ooze white privilege in saying that, but it's still nice; if only life were so simple.

Like "The Omega Glory," the title "The Savage Curtain" doesn't make a whole lot of sense in terms of what's actually happening. It suggests something like "Theatrical Play about Savagery," or maybe on the other hand "The Savagely Staged Play," which isn't the same thing at all. The Excalbians aren't testing civilization vs savagery anyway, it's good vs evil, dude. If it were to have meant "The Savagery That Occurs Behind the Curtain," then I presume we'd've had a totally different story.

Mediocre episode with highlights.

I love this one. It is part of the You May Now Watch Your Captain on Your Viewscreen Trilogy, so by this point the idea was not new, and the neutralization of the Enterprise was as usual somewhat tired, but the dialogue absolutely crackles. Between that and the guest stars (including Colonel Green, who's fantastic), it's an awesome hour of entertainment.

There's a line in the Blish adaptation where Uhura says she finds her color more attractive than Kirk's or Lincoln's. Was that in the script?

This episode has one of my favorite lines that I like to say over and over. The Klingon says "Help me Spock, Help me." it is the way that he says it that is funny to me. I also like the creation of a fictitious bad guy like Colonel Green. He was good character. Barry Atwater and Lee Begerre(sp) as Surak and Abraham Lincoln were also well played.

I love the Excalibian dialogue. I wish all the villains had more equal development though. Zhora was a scientist but acted like a mute thug. She could have concocted poison from local plants to coat weapons or set up complex traps.

I think something more akin to the two parter in Voyager where the Hirogen set up the WWII Holodeck program, allowing each of the recurring characters and each of the villains a little moment to shine would have been great.

I believe the real Lincoln was a great deal more racist than shown in that episode. His reason for ending slavery wasn't out of concern for the African-Americans that he despised almost as much as the southern slave owners did.
