How to prepare for Discovery

I didn't make it past the miniseries or whatever. I wanted to slip my wrists shortly after the credits.

DSC has not had that impact on me yet.
Funny, I could never get past the original ‘70s BSG after a few episodes, whereas I find Moore’s incarnation riveting.

I think it stands alone well; a new viewer can choose to follow up things that are of particular interest to them once they’ve seen it.

My only advice would be to not click on Discovery videos on YouTube, to not read comments on the Star Trek Facebook page, to not look up user reviews on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes...

One of my colleagues was loving it as his first Trek series, but he was afraid to tell me because he assumed I, as a Trek fan, would hate it based on what he saw online.

It's all optional but I'd add TNG: "Rightful Heir" to the list, and I would condense it to:

TOS: The Menagerie
TOS: Journey to Babel
TOS: I, Mudd
TOS: Day of the Dove
TOS: The Tholian Web
ENT: In a Mirror Darkly
TNG: Rightful Heir
DS9: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

Whaa? BSG had it's issues (ahem... season 3) but for the most part it's right there in the top tier of Sci-Fi operas (right behind B5, no one will ever beat B5)

Let's say we absolutely agree on B5, but don't agree at all regarding BSG

Prepare favorite snacks and beverages
Sit down.
Turn on your preferred media viewing device
Go to CBS All Access
Select Star Trek Discovery.
I just watch the PVR recording. Looks great in the “man cave” (my wife’s name for it) on the projector screen in 5.1 Dolby and hi def.

That’s right—we get it on cable. No stinking streaming apps and whatnot. :p

I'm one that really liked the mini-series as a standalone. Once it made it to series, it was so dark not even light could escape its surface. Made it through season two, then kinda drifted away.

Though my wife loved the entire show.

Be thankful you never watched the finale. It made no sense and contradicted basically everything they'd set up in the first two seasons. I hate it with a passion to this day, ten years later.
