What would have happened on Earth after a Dominion victory, if the Dominion didn't eradicated it?

If the Dominion with the Cardassians had decided against laying waste to Earth after a victory, i wonder how they would have treated the population. How big would have been the changes in the lifes of the average federation citizens on the planet? Would their way of life stay mostly the same or would the oppression be felt in every aspect of their lives? What about replicator and holodeck technology?

All of the people would be given WORK to do.
No more deciding to play an Autoharp for personal gratification and doing nothing else but still living in a 4900 square ft house with a scenic view.
Everyone would be in labor camps or sent away to other places for mining or manufacturing, building, sex trade, domestic service etc.

Is there a source that that actually happens? The people on Earth I remember seeing mostly worked. Sisko's dad in the restaurant, lots of folks at Starfleet Headquarters and Academy. While I don't think they let people starve, evidence is thin that the nonworkers had mansions with views.

There is the episode where Jake wants to get the baseball card for his dad and he explains to Nog why Federation people don't have money like other species.
Something like they work to better themselves.......
I love sports and art.
If I was a Federation citizen I would have been an athlete when I was young and now I'd be an artist. (And not have to live Under the viaduct.) :)

Autoharp guy gonna wipe out the Founders like the polka music took out the Martians in Mars Attacks.

But how would it be possible for the Dominion to intern a population of billions of people in labor camps? And what would happen with the cities, towns and villages on earth?

And wouldn't a harsh treatment bring with it a higher risk for insurrections and resistance? Wouldn't disarming and monitoring the population and taking away all dangerous technology be enough?

The Dominion can produce large numbers of Jem Hadar and Vorta very quickly. I expect people would continue to live in cities and towns and villages, as they're easier to keep track of that way. If they're not going to exterminate the people, they'll need somewhere to live.

If they're only disarmed, there's the risk that they'd improvise weapons, lots of technologies can be dangerous if deliberately misused.

Even if they do not exterminate the earth population outright, they could still go for a sadistic punishment, such as the one they gave those "Blight" people. After all, those were punished because they thought they could resist the dominion, and Earth as (one of) the de facto leader(s) of the Federation would certainly count as one of the places that 'defied' the Dominion in their book. Other, less important planets could get a slightly better fate, such as the forced labor mentioned above, but I'm afraid Earth wouldn't fare so "well".

There was a Star Trek fanfiction script series written by R. John Burke which imagined that sometime after when DS9 is set the Dominion opened their own wormhole and returned and conquered the Alpha Quadrant. Earth is pretty much left untouched and the population has fallen in line with being a Dominion world. The Federation fleet was destroyed but some Starfleet personnel that had surrendered were all exiled to their own colony world.

I think the Founders would probably just wipe out Earth though but I don't think they feel what they are doing is evil. If they're thinking they know what's best for solids, then sometimes before you grow your crops you have to pull out the weeds. The Dominion may have wiped out Teplan but that served as a warning for other planets to fall into line. We see that the Dosi and those Hunters seem to have their culture intact, so as long as you do what they say and don't cause trouble, they will leave you alone.

And I think that in the end, even if Earth was gone, there still would be rebellions somewhere in the Dominion. I think unless the Dominion was prepared to use the Aschen method from Stargate SG1 and completely decimate and redesign cultures then it would inevitable for different species to want to rise up against their control.

If they didn't eradicate it, they at least would blow up a few major cities. That's what it would take to prevent rebellion. It would probably be a lot like New Caprica.

The Dominion was big on moderated bioweapons in "The Quickening", and had made quite a habit out of controlled distribution of chemicals. I could well see them doing something similar on Earth.

"A reminder message from your friendly Dominion overlords: you have all been infected with a disease that, frankly put, is quite horrible in its early stages. I really don't want to describe the later stages. By reporting to your work detail every morning, you ensure your daily dose of antidote. Be advised that the antidote is only good for one day, and taking it on the wrong day will only aggravate the symptoms. Also, there are regional and other markers that I won't discuss in detail here. Suffice to say that attempts at hoarding, confiscation, unauthorized distribution or falsification of the antidote will not end well. Have another glorious day working for the Dominion!"

They would probably go to the length of a global re-education program and propaganda efforts to undermine Starfleet and the Federation.
People have to learn how good they have it under Dominion protection.
Never mind your neighbors disappearing.
They just got a better job somewhere.

I guess how the occupation turns out to be like also depends on how much leeway they give the Cardassians or later the Breen.

Maybe these factors and the relationship between the Cardies and the Breen should also be recognized to make a complete theory for a Dominion occupation of Earth.

I actually don't think the dominion would have been too harsh. The comfortable lifestyles of federation citizens would make them less inclined to revolt, and if the governing Vorta is smart, they would seek to ensure the general populace experienced as little disruption to their day to day lives as possible.

A Jem'Hadar garrison would be installed and taxes would be implemented.

But all in all a dominion occupation of earth and the federation wouldn't be too burdensome because the dominion is interested in order and a light hand in former federation territories I think would be the best means of getting that.

A Jem'Hadar garrison would be installed

Now that's the neat thing about the Jem'Hadar. Since they are invisible (except when they have to fight), you can never tell they aren't there behind your shoulder, listening to signs of sedition.

Which is why the Dominion would do well never to place actual garrisons on "member" worlds. Invisible troops cannot be attacked. Especially if they aren't there at all, which means the Dominion saves a lot of resources, too.

If there really is unrest, the Jem'Hadar will respond. Eventually. That they have no obligation to respond immediately is again a great advantage, because minor hiccups in deployment then don't undermine the deterrent value. A rebellion that seems to succeed for a few months or years will only make the rebels scared and depressed, because this exact thing is what always preceded the total, ruthless crushing of all rebellions in Dominion history...

On Cardassia they blew up a city because of Damar. I think they’d keep doing the same on Earth until they were completely broken. They’d destroy San Francisco on the first visit. Then there’d be an organized resistance that might do some damage, and they’d destroy another big city. Would probably take 4 or 5 before they gave up along with public execution of the families of anyone suspected to be involved.

Then, when their ships are destroyed, their history is destroyed, their technology destroyed, the gem’hadar would scale back their presence, but probably leave a military base nearby as a symbol of domination of the Federation.

Honestly, the writers were not very consistent with how The Dominion/The Founders were treated. You got the idea in the early seasons that life for the average race which submitted to Dominion rule wasn't that bad. The Founders were only really interested in ensuring other races weren't a threat. They didn't really care about extracting the wealth of subject races in order to live high and mighty or anything. Just keep your heads down and you'll be fine. But the DS9 writers felt the need to up the stakes over the course of the series, until The Founders were engaged in total war.

You know what would have been the most sensible way for The Founders to conquer Earth? Just keep sending changeling spies who slowly took over the entirety of the Federation governance - ideally well before The Search. Get the Federation to sign some treaties favorable to The Dominion which result in Jem'hadar bases in the Alpha Quadrant. By the time anyone in the lower ranks figures out something is wrong, The Federation's defense perimeters are so fucked that even after the changlings are rooted out the Federation would have to sign up as a Dominion protectorate - or fake "ally" like Cardassia.

I'd say that it seems that they leave you pretty much alone as long you are not important enough for their strategic interests (either as a threat or a possible base of operations, or another hub of importance). Seeing how quickly they can build ships and breed Jem'Hadar, they don't need to take away all of your resources- they have enough of their own. But it seems that becoming more important to their plans (either in a positive or negative way) earns you more scrutiny from them. So perhaps the smartest thing for a Dominion subjugated race is to keep as much of a low profile as possible (and hope you don't live in a strategically important area).
