Picard Show character breakdowns

Characters sound interesting, except for the 20-something insecure female for millennial audiences. Another Tilly to drag down the show is not needed.
IMO Indira looks like Tilly's mirror image from the 24th century. I think they wanted to make science more attractive to millennial viewers, but it kinda backfire because you're making them to be too nerdish, weird, and speak in techno-babbles all the time.

The only required ethnicity in the casting breakdowns seems to be for Connie. They want her to be a Black female. It sounds like she's also the Captain of the ship. This will probably be the main lead next to Picard. I wonder if they already have an actor picked here.

Sonequa Martin-Green?? Just kidding :hugegrin::hugegrin:

I do think Connie is Burnham's 24th century alter ego, just like Indira for Tilly.

Alana, being older than the others, could be a love interest for Picard.
Could be. I also think they want her character to be an older, street-smart, and more cynical Alara (from the Orville) look-alike. But we kinda have one already. It's her replacement Talla ;)

I'm guessing Starton could be the show's weird prosthetic alien character
IMHO he's either Data 2.0 or Dr Soong 2.0

Not liking the idea of the angsty teenage Romulan.
Looks like this series' version of Wesley Crusher :guffaw::guffaw::hugegrin::hugegrin:. I hope Picard will yell "shut up!!" to him a lot ;);)

I hope the breakdowns are true - I don't want another repeat of Logan with dying Picard on his last mission. And yeah there are similarities to Renegades with the ragtag crew led by an older, bald Trek vet, mind you people were saying Discovery had similarities to Axanar with the Klingon War, hmmm....

I wonder if one of the directors will make a viewscreen cameo...?

Still hoping for the best, and silly to read too much into some initial character descriptions, but I still hope this goes in a more Ambassador Picard settling dispute directions rather than Pirate Picard.

Lethal Weapon character was most worrying really. It is looking so much like Firefly. Which I love, but it is it's own show.

Weird? Perhaps. But it’s what I most look forward to seeing. I’ll be HIGHLY disappointed if it turns out to be TNG2.0.
No doubt at some point in the there will be some TNG homage stuff - obviously TNG guest stars and maybe some flashbacks to the series and movies.. maybe even the odd sequel ep (Conspiracy?)
I'd just assumed this was going to be some kind of Trek political thriller with Picard as some kind of Federation head honcho dealing with some crisis. so these kind of characters seemed out of place, except I'm probably wrong so they won't be. I'm sure the show will be fine whatever it is. I just really liked my idea because I loved imagining Old Man Picard grousing at everyone and calling people out on their shit.

Patrick Stewart has a big influence on the show so looking at some of his past contributions lead to a more action adventure lighter tone like this 'Pirate Picard' .. sure there will be the odd scene/ep devoted to a more expected 'Countdown' version of Admiral/Ambassador Picard

Or flashback to the gap between Nemesis and Untitled Picard Show (we need a proper title)

While I realize the names themselves are likely placeholders, I'm a little unhappy with how human the crew is. Basically one EMH, one Romulan, and maybe one other alien character (Starton). Then four humans.

Well, the audience will be entirely human, so there’s that. ;)

The goal is to draw as many people as possible and, unlike for animation, I suspect market research has amply demonstrated a threshold for sci-fi casts of characters who are non human among the general public. Those of us who frequent boards like these are a tiny minority of viewers and it would not be profitable to rely on us.

Guardians of the Galaxy might appear an example against my point but A) I’ve not made an absolute assertion and B) the aliens in the MCU behave exactly like humans (which I suspect is not what you are looking for in alien characterization).

Two times in two seasons.

You're right - that's not "several" times.

That's all the time.

Makes STD quite the one-trick pony.

As much as I love the Abrams films, they fell into the same trap and people began to not care. I'm hoping the Picard series gives us smaller more intimate stories than what we've gotten so far from Discovery.

I bet we’ll be getting some kind of short teaser trailer with the season finale of Discovery. Probably just a ship shot and the title of the show.

I’ll also add my voice to the chorus calling for a new forum dedicated to this show.

Casting news!

Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd have been cast, although their roles aren't revealed yet.

If the breakdowns are accurate, Hurd is likely Connie.

Okay..here we go, I'm hoping Hurd is Connie. Unlike Sonequa/Burnham, I know Hurd can play commanding and authoritative in a believable way.

I'm guessing Michelle Hurd will be the Captain. I liked her performance on Daredevil. That's a show which has a level of quality and high-bar performances that new Trek needs to emulate.

Santiago Cabrera...meh. His best claim to fame for me is being cast as the original Aquaman in George Miller's Justice League... which never filmed.

If Star Trek can weather the accusation that Deep Space Nine basically cribs Babylon 5, I wouldn't personally sweat any (perceived) similarities between this show and Firefly. I wouldn't mind a more unique take on Star Trek.
