You can't deny that having anyone else but Ford in the role didn't cause backlash.
If Solo had glowing reviews it wouldn't have bombed.
Or, more broadly: there was low demand for a recast origin story of Han Solo starring a comparative nobody and released six months after the mainline episode.
I posted a link to the primary source, upthread.Does anyone have links to videos as to what Brie Larson actually said.
I'm not sure I understand what this is about. Is this about Brie Larson's comment where she said that she'd like journalists and critics who aren't white and male also to be included in her press events in addition to those who are white and male?

She simply said she wanted more representation press events rather than nearly exclusively white male, and the fragile white male contingent had a conniption fit.
Lots of actors have replaced other actors without issue. I don't think recasting had a thing to do with it
A backlash? Maybe, but I am doubtful of the overall impact that it had. Certainly was not the chief reason I saw people not wanting to go see it.You can't deny that having anyone else but Ford in the role didn't cause backlash.
She also clarified that she doesn't want to exclude anyone from the table. She just wants a bigger table. How the frack is that offensive?
SW tends to be way more "puritan" over that, for lack of a better term.
As for Larson, it may just be timing. What she said wasn't bad at all, but apparently there's this sense that men have been getting belittled and insulted by media and big franchises too much over the last few years (Fragile Male Ego reactions to Ghostbuster 2016, Star Wars Sequels, something about Gillette apparently) and they just think Larson added to that.
So to them, their overreaction to her is "We're mad as Hell and not gonna take it anymore!" when it truth there have been no attacks on the. Just their fragile egos.

I still think Disney made a mistake releasing Solo so soon after Last Jedi, especially considering the backlash Last Jedi got. Star Wars seemed to work as a holidays thing, so why did they break up a good thing? It's a shame too because of the new era of Star Wars, Solo is my favorite film.
My theory was always that they expected Mary Poppins to do Star Wars like numbers, and didn't want to compete with themselves.

I'll deny it all day. I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Ehrenreich, but that's because I don't think he did that good a job in the film. Not because he isn't Ford. You can't deny that having anyone else but Ford in the role didn't cause backlash.
A story I heard is that Disney is sick of the fact all their Star Wars movies were postponed from their original spring release dates to Christmas and were adamant Solo had to keep its spring release date. Honestly, I'm not sure I believe this story, since Episode IX's release was postponed after all the Lord & Miller stuff went down with Solo, but the story is out there all the same.I still think Disney made a mistake releasing Solo so soon after Last Jedi, especially considering the backlash Last Jedi got. That was before Carol got powered up into Binary though.
