Star Trek Discovery Renewed For Season 3

*goes to looks up "socialism" on Google; accidentally hits "socialist utopia" in the autofill; all links are Star Trek-related*

I don't know who is the bigger asshole, you for this joke ( which was funny) or me for googling "socialist utopia" to see if it was true.

Voyager was the one where the writing staff hated Star Trek and felt like it was a chore writing it.

Either way not surprising it got renewed, what the hell else does CBS have? This is the tentpoll cornerstone series for their entire platform and until they get some smash hit popular series, it will stick around. On it's own merits I had the guess a year ago that Discovery will get 3 seasons at minimum, (Season 1 to set a basis, 2 to refine it and 3 to see if the refined version soars or flops). They've invested too much into it to can it only at 2.

Hopefully though this finally kills Midnight's Edge and Nerdrotic. I'm sick of them and their little copy-cats making all Discovery negative discussion about "MUH SJWS RUINING TREK" (yeah Discovery's bizarre pro-interventionist hawk politics sure are SJW!) and drowning out actual real critical discussion of the show. There is plenty, and I mean PLENTY to shit on Discovery for, but none of it is reflected in hacks like Midnight's Edge and Nerdrotic.

Precisely my perspective. I'm what you might call right wing in my views (Libertarian is more specific), but I have not seen hide nor hair of all of this evil SJW crap in this show. The gays are being treated as normal humans with actual characterisation and not just their sexuality being the core of everything, I haven't heard a single 'feminism is beautiful' or anything like that, in fact, yet again the women seem perfectly normal without being at the expense of the male characters.

By all means, criticise the show for its shortcomings, but to invent crap like those two do (not to mention a certain female with strange hair) really is so disingenuous, it's maddening.

It is fascinating to see the stories being told in the comments section of a few anti-Discovery YouTubers. Here's a summary of a few:
  • There was a secret agreement for five seasons.
  • Despite the failure of Discovery, CBS can't escape from a contract.
  • They had to get a renewal before Abdin came down on them.
  • Even though Discovery isn't profitable, and CBS is losing millions, they're keeping Discovery for its identity politics, SJW agenda, and brainwashing of the masses.
  • Season three will massively reduce its budget and focus on interpersonal drama, hence the choice to bring in Paradise.
  • Disco is on life support; this is it's last chance!
  • They're doctoring the books to make it look like a success.
  • "Midnight's Edge was right again."

At this point, they might as well have Alex Jones give his take on Discovery. It wouldn't be too different.

Truly worthy of an anthropological study, Star Trek could do an episode on this kind of irrational thinking :P

Don't they already have interpersonal drama? Season 1 had Saru adapting to the Mirror universe and his issues with Michael, and this season so far is including Stamets and Culber, and of course Michael and Spock. Saru is going on his transformation as well.

You really could do a study. It's not the comments that blow my mind, but the concentration of them. The volume and speed of the response is amazing.

The most common one seems to be that CBS is taking a massive loss to push its New World Order/SJW agenda/indoctrination of the masses, etc.
