Rumour has it it's been pushed back so emergency surgery can be done on the script. Feels like Spectre all over again.

Never thought I'd say this but maybe it's time for Barbara et al to sell the franchise. It's clear their hearts just aren't in it anymore. I don't relish a slew of M, Q, Moneypenny, Felix, Quarrel Jr etc spinoff films, but at least if Disney were backing it we'd be gaurenteed a half decent Bond film every 2 years!

^ point being I'd rather have a ropey Bond film every two years than a ropey Bond film every 5 years! If you're churning them out at least you don't have to wait too long for the next one if one's a bit shit

Of the four Star Wars movies Disney has put out so far, only one has been a disappointment (Solo).

I've been saying something along these lines for a while. I would agree that Mike's 'heart' isn't in it anymore. He's pushing 80. It's time to retire. The thing with Babs, though, is I think she's just bored with doing the same thing over and over again, and I don't think she has the creative bone necessary to drastically alter directions. And that's a shame, really. Because I think she has some of the best business savvy in the industry and doesn't get the recognition she deserves for it.

The smart thing for Sony to have done would have been to buyout EON outright, have Mike retire, bring in a whole bunch of new people to run Bond, and promote her to a high-ranking executive. I have no doubt she could have completely turned Sony Pictures around within ten - even five - years. Of course, that's too late now with the whole Universal thing.

Funny, to me only one has been enjoyable, Rogue One.

I guess I'm in the minority who enjoyed QoS overall, so there's only one of the past four James Bond movies that I've simply not enjoyed in the least, and that would be Spectre.

That's a substantial improvement over the Bronsan era, where the only one worth a damn, I thought, was GoldenEye. Other than the opener, that whole era was a waste of a man born to play Bond.

For me only The Force Awakens is really great. I was always a bit iffy about Rogue 1, a film made to fill a plot hole that never needed filling that in the process created new plot holes, but watched it again a few weeks past and I enjoyed it a lot more, maybe TLJ and Solo made me appreciate it more. There's a lot I like about The Last Jedi, but it's just soooo baggy and badly paced, and the starship chase makes no sense. Loved grumpy Luke, loved that Snoke was never the big bad and that Rey wasn't a fricken Skywalker, and I can see what Johnson was trying to do (democratise the Force so it isn't about heritage, which never made any sense anyway given Jedi were celibate!) I just think he crammed way too much into one film. As for Solo, sigh, well aside from casting a guy way shorter than Ford it's again not a film we really needed, it gets better towards the end, and I do need to give it another go, but damn it made me eye roll so much in the first third or so.

It's clear they don't know what to do with the franchise, that's part of the reason they broke the bank to get Craig back again (and I still feel Barbara feels she can get him back for another!) it's kinda like the tail end of Roger's tenure. I don't think the franchise will die, but I do feel some people in Eon would gladly give it up but feel beholden by tradition to keep going. They've really got to stop going back to Purvis and Wade for starters (and I know they tried with Logan)

QoS is underrated, especially when you take into account the restrictions they were under, and I kinda like the raw, unfished edge to it. Plus at least it doesn't outstay its welcome like Spectre.

Goldeneye is Brosnan's best film, but I still really like Tomorrow Never Dies, it doesn't do anything new or innovative, but it's well paced, with good stunts and it hangs together well (and has proven prescient on the whole fake news thang) Frankly the franchise could do with a solidly enjoyable by the numbers Bond film right now. I fear #25 will continue to mine the *Bond's psyche/Vesper/ooh isn't it tough being a hired killer/oh no, my primary school teacher's back and he's out for revenge* model.

I just want M to send Bond on a mission. I want a pretty woman (or two) with some agency, I want a villain (and it'd be nice if we got a female villain again) with a ridiculously nefarious plan who isn't linked to Bond's past, and I really would like it is Bond doesn't go fucking rogue like he has in practically every film of the 21st Century (I let Skyfall off because it's less him going rogue than dropping off the grid)! Hard to remember sometimes that 007 only truly went rogue once in the first 21 films!

What he said. I'm planning on a rewatch of the Bond films (and their DVD/Blu-Ray extras) imminently. What I would really like to see is the BBC produce (reasonably) faithful period adaptations of the novels/short stories, in order of publication. Unfortunately the firm grip that EON has on the franchise makes this an impossible pipe dream.

So, I’m quite surprised to see no update on this thread to take into account the much-debated (or mocked) new title Shatterhand.

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/discove...t-rumoured-bond-title-shatterhand-906558.html

Personally, I don’t dislike it (it’s no worse than eg Thunderball, IMHO) and aficionados will know that it links to a certain villain. I’m a little amused at the fact that it’s the 3rd consecutive title to have one word beginning with S.

Is it the actually been officially announced or is it just rumored? I haven't read any of the stories, so I thought it was just a rumored working title.

Considering the backlash, I would be surprised if they don't changed it.

Could do but OTOH I can see people getting used to it. And at least they’re talking about it.

Qantum of Solace was a letdown coming after the brilliant Casino Royale.. that and Skyfall where the high point of Craig's Bond movies and Spectre was a major disappointment.
Seeing all these delays and problems (and i also believe Craig is not really into it anymore, the paycheck must have been huge) i also wonder if it's not time to clean house and bring in a completely new crew with a fresh take.

However i wholeheartedy agree with you about Brosnan.. what a wasted opportunity. Goldeneye was ok (loved the initial scene of seeing two 00's working as team.. smooth and cool) but the rest sucked hard. I had a glimmer of hope at the beginning of Die Another Day when Bond was captured and cut loose by M. That was a cool proposition of having Bond go at it without all the gadgets and money but it quickly turned around to become one of the worst Bond movies ever.

They should have had the guts and let Craig leave and bring in Idris Elba.. that would have made a huge impact and i would have scrambled to get a ticket to the theatre.

Well.. he is 46 now and Craig is 50.

They made Bond's age a good component of Skyfall and Idris is still physically imposing. I don't need Bond parcouring all over Europe and i have a hard time coming up with a 20 or 30 something who has such raw charisma to pull off Bond.

Yes, but this is the end of the line for Craig's run after more than a decade. Elba would be starting at around 50 if he took over. Don't get me wrong, I would've loved to see Elba's take but the timing is off.

The only way I could see it working is if they went with a storyline that this is towards the end of Bond's career, but that's not going to have much legs and I don't think they'll want to do that and then have to recast again in relatively short order.

I've liked the suggestions in this thread that perhaps it's time to return to the basics (except the overt sexism, that can stay in the past). I've loved how the Craig era has turned against the tropes and I think his run has been very enjoyable (except Sceptre), but I think it's time to change things up again.
