I try to put myself into their fictional world, where nuclear war was actually inevitable... Veidt is a genius who did the calculations and could not have been wrong.

Snyder, like a bunch of other readers of the novel, thought Rorschach was a "good" example of how to be in the world. Which, of course, was never Moore's intention.

It makes sense that Snyder liked Rorschach, because the guy is a big Ayn Rand fan and Rorschach is based off The Question, who himself was based on steve Ditko's love of Rand's shitty philosophy (seriously, the best stories with The Question are the ones farthest removed from Ditko's original stuff).

I could be wrong, but didn't Snyder make Rorschach less fucked up in the movie? I think the comic version was basically a right wing lunatic, and it feels like the movie version was toned down a bit. I've never been able to stomach the Watchmen comic long enough to finish it (the movie is certainly a better story, even though I'd rate it a solid "meh" ), but what I remember reading of the comic really seems like Snyder changed Rorschach to make him (slightly) less objectionable to people who weren't nuts.

Well, thing is unless the Soviets somehow had a way of maintaining the economy in the Watchmen world (unlikely, seeing how Dr Manhattan would make them spend MORE money on weapons) they were going to collapse inevitably. So again, this is a case of real life making the story come off differently than the writer intended. It's a big part of why Rorschach has his misaimed fandom.

Anyways, back on topic I'm wondering if the next Aquaman movie will introduce Dolphin and Tempest.

"Shitty philosophy" is a universe-sized understatement regarding Rand.

You know, in Central America and in particular Guatemala, large portions of the wealthy population revere Rand. There is even a huge statue of her at one of the universities.

That honestly really surprises me, I had assumed we would at least get her, and possibly will Smith back. I wonder if we'll see the Waller again?

    I thought of an analogy.

Man of Steel is to Superman 1978 as The X Files is to Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Frankly, I thought Snyder made the ending of "Watchmen" more interesting than Moore's original ending.

I don't know about more interesting, more tidy, perhaps. Without the whole plot line of the island creating terrors, etc, a weird alien invasion would be out of left field. Making it about the challenge of controlling the ONLY superpower dude, makes a lot of sense.

Plausible. The X-Files didn't interest me, either.

Anybody that didn't have their head buried in sand isn't surprised by this.

But recasting is part of Batman's thing, I'm excited for his future again, especially the idea of a movie that finally really focuses in the detecive part. I'm more excited for that than who they might cast next.

I was hoping Affleck would be in the role for a few more years until they cast David Masouz (sorry if misspelled)... Him and the CAST of Gotham are great...just the storyline stinks. Would have loved to see him in the reboot in 15 years

WB likes to keep their TV and movies pretty distinct, there was a better chance of Affleck staying on as Batman than the cast of Gotham graduating to movies.

I didn't see it posted but here's Scott Adkin's screen test.

He's doing the scene in "The Dark Knight Rises" after Batman returns to the cave.
