Season 2 an overall improvement?

In my eyes the title definitely rings true. Its definitely more in tune with the 80/90/00s Trek. It's back to its roots of exploration and discovery (no pun intended), season 1 was to war centric for my taste. What are the general views here?

I never had a problem with that really. I'm more interested in good story telling.

I have been enjoying season two. Season one for me was full of ups and downs. I almost gave up after the pilot.

The writing has been better. It has felt much more like Trek to me this season. I love that more of the bridge crew have been getting involved.

I hope that the season one damage is not enough to kill the show. It was always easy for me to say. Hey Enterprise season 3 is better! Give it a try. Now fans who depart have to PAY to get back in, a high bar. Its what I have liked least about Discovery, the pay wall for Americans only. Netflix folks world wide get it and we don't.

I find season one pretty bad, all the way around, with little to redeem it. So the show could only go up in my eyes. Though I'm pleasantly surprised by how entertaining season two has been so far.

We'll see if they can keep it up.

To be fair, people pay for Netflix shows too. This is the world of streaming where nothing is merely “free” like over the air broadcasting. It’s certainly cheaper than having to pay for overpriced cable subscription packages.

I think it was an one point, but now? I have CBS All-Access, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Which is about $50 a month, and none of it works without an internet connection, which is another $60.

On the other hand, you have the option to be selective of what you subscribe to. Netflix has always been my main service going back to DVD by mail, while everything else has been on and off. I was only subscribed to Showtime when the new Twin Peaks hit, then cancelled it after that run finished. I’ve lost count on how many times I unsubscribed and resubscribed on Amazon and Hulu depending on what exclusive content I wanted to watch.

Let's have season 2 improvement threads about everything....and polls. Wait a minute.........

Like Star Wars or the marvel stuff? Now you will have too add Disney too. I love Titans and so have had to pay DC too. I'm getting tired of subbing then cancelling to avoid paying for a year. Its getting more expensive to watch this stuff. My prediction is eventually piracy is going to go back up again. So I am paying now for Netflix, Hulu, CBS, DC, and then Disney also soon. I have also subbed and cancelled HBO and Starz multiple times. Getting sick of the way things are headed.

I have friends who love Trek but refuse to pay. They pirate it or just bash it left and right.

I prefer streaming to paying for cable/satellite, it's great not having to wait for it to actually be on (beyond the date anyway) and just being able to whack it on whenever you want and not have to sit through adds.

I don't miss the premium subscription days, good riddance I say.

I don't think Season 2 is quite as strong as Season 1, which I really enjoyed, but I do think this season has been more consistent, with a few highly emotional points that elevate the story as a whole (Pike and Jacob, Stamets singing with Tilly, Saru's scene with Michael in his quarters). The show has found a voice, I think. I can see this season being stronger in aggregate.

Bizarrely, it's also left me wanting stories of a certain tone, and the only thing that's satisfied that want is watching The Original Series, a show I've never much enjoyed. So I think it's doing something effectively.

I do feel that season 2 is an improvement.

However, I don't think that being "more in tune with the 80s/90s/00s Trek" is in and of itself a marker of improvement. I don't like the idea of being tied down to that particular time of the Trek franchise or holding it as some kind of golden standard. They should always strive to improve rather than being stuck in the 90s.

I just meant it's more like what we know and love.
but we already have what we know and love. hundreds of hours of it.
I absolutely LOVE chocolate, but every now and then, I actually agree with my wife that it is healthier to eats something else...then I eat cake.
DSC is that cake to 90s Trek chocolate
