I figured we had to be getting close to Culber's return. Looks like its going to be a hell of a journey and I bet it'll be a few episodes before he's truly back.

yeah i mean culber's good, but i'm here for:

Very, very subtle detail!! The uniform that this Culber is wearing, while also distressed, is subtly different. We have never seen Culber in a dark blue uniform, only white; he also died in white. While medical officers probably do wear standard blue from time to time, the choice of the producers says something. The uniform does not have metallic piping (gold, silver, or bronze). Neither do the shoes. At first I thought it might be the tactical jumpsuit, but this is a two piece like the standard duty.

Is he, Terran, from the mirror universe? Maybe, but the officers in those shows wore a black, one piece uniform. I cannot tell if the uniform is black or navy.

My Theory: this Culber is from another, previously unseen, alternate universe.

Well, considering the fact that we saw the doc get his neck snapped, unless there's some wibbly wabbly timey wimey stuff, I do not think he's our Culber. I never figured he would be. I'm guessing there'll be some friction at first between Stamets and Culber.

Well, since the brain can survive for a few minutes after a snapped neck, I assumed that Stamets ("That is not Paul Stamets," according to Tilly) went over to him, acted as some kind of conduit to the mycelial network, uploaded Culber's brain, and then sat with him until he was found holding Culber in the following episode.

But the Mirror Culber theory sort of makes sense with the uniform change. That said, it would be disappointing in a way, as he and Stamets would essentially be starting over, and this wouldn't really be a continuation of their story as the producers and actors sort of insinuated. I guess the question, then, is if this Culber is different from Head!Culber that Stamets saw in the network. I'm here for evil Georgiou; I'm not sure I'm here for questionably evil Culber. Maybe he's a decent person who got marooned in the network via evil Stamets?

Possibly.

As for the uniform change, there were occasions when characters were kinda wearing a more casual version of the uniforms we see. Culber's uni kinda looks like that.

I wonder if under the white, he has this.

He also has standard Starfleet Deltas on his boot, not the Imperial logo.

Infinite permutations, spore-drunk Stamets once said. Could be a Culber from any one of those.

The uniform in the photo you uploaded is the tactical jumpsuit without the outer vest. It is a one-piece. New-Culber is wearing a two piece.

Plus there is no way medical officers are wearing a whole blue outfit under the white uniform.

I'm guessing the Discovery catches up to Spock's shuttle and instead it is inhabited by Georgiou. Where's Spock? Section 31 intercepted him and had Georgiou pilot the shuttle as a wild goose chase for any pursuers.

Vert possible based on the fact we've seen Spock and Burnham aboard the S31 ship in promos.

I will be glad to see Culber back. The actors playing Stamets and Culber keep saying that this resurrection is handled well by the writers, so I am cautiously optimistic.

Well, they were similarly enthusiastic about how the writers handled their characters' relationship in season one, and we all know how that went, so I don't know what's what with their assessments of the writers' abilities, to be honest.

Good news that we'll see Jayne Brook again! :)

I thought they handled the Culber/Stamets relationship quite well.

Until they murdered Culber that is.

Yes, that's what I'm referencing. I loved Culber and Stamets and how they portrayed their relationship, but the writers undermined a lot of that with how they killed off Culber. Bringing him back now (and really, announcing his comeback a day after they killed him off because of what seemed like negative viewer reactions) really seems like damage control. I'm looking forward to see Wilson Cruz and Culber again, but it will always leave a bad aftertaste that they succumbed to the bad “Bury Your Gays” trope in season freakin' one (!) while patting theirselves on their backs for how progressive their writing was.

They announced the same day I believe (during AfterTrek). I think it might have actually been a long game. But I’m not completely sure.

Well let me rephrase, they always intended for him to show up again in Season 1. I don't know about Season 2.

They claim they talked to the GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) before writing his death, and they (the writers) said they were fine with it.

Wilson Cruz also works for the group.
