The Trench sequence in the movie was rather good, and that diving shot was one of the most memorable in the movie. Can't say I'm that particularly interested in this movie myself, but horror movies seem to do well these days and they could do this one on a lower budget as basically an underwater Alien movie, so I can see how this might find its audience quite easily.
The trench sequence was visually stunning, as was the rest of Aquaman. But there’s no character there. It’s like doing a spin off of the Death Star trench run from Star Wars. DC has all of these characters, great characters, weird characters. But what do they announce? A movie based on a sequence. Call me when they are doing a Mister E movie. That shit would be scary.
Presumably they'll, y'know, write some in... If this was the only thing they announced, I'd get it, but there are literally dozens of the "usual" movies and TV series already in development so I really don't get this instant knee-jerk reaction against also trying something different as well.
Well. Duh. But, they aren't basing a spin off around a success character, but, a sequence. Again, it's like doing a spin off after the helicopter chase scene in M:I Fallout. While exciting, it's exciting within the context of characters trying to do something. *looks around, confirming this is discussion board about science fiction, fantasy, comic books and movies. Looks at post, confirming it's about comic book movie news, especially about very little comic book news.* So... should I only talk about what's in front of cameras? Only talk about trailers? Or should I wait until a movie premieres, is that when it's ok to have a thought about something? In other words: I'm not sure what point you are making, here, at the Trek BBS where people get into arguments about fictional technology.

Freaking out, having a meltdown and accusing me of "shutting you down" for replying to your post, the literal thing you're supposed to do in a discussion is not "discussing something." I have zero interest in whatever persecution complex you've got going on, so yeah, I'm done here...
I see another flop from DC with "The Trench". Like others have stated, yeah it worked for the Aquaman film as another 'hurdle to overcome' and was exciting and visually interesting. But, truth be told, no if they do a film about the 'History' of "The Trench" - >yawn<...Zero interest.
With all the DC characters that have never been in a movie, spending resources on The Trench is asinine. Maybe spend some money on a movie with one of the dozens and dozens of other characters/teams from the DC Comics universe instead of spinning off what is basically a stage hazard(in video game terms) in Aquaman into its own movie.
I am really surprised that Zack Snyder didn't push for a JSA movie while he was in charge. He loves Watchmen style concepts, and a group of retired superheroes coping with age and dealing with disappearing relevance is right up his alley...
In a movie that was supposed to be extremely ambiguous about the morality of the characters, he sure did come off as the hero...
Even Watchmen itself wasn't as good with this as Moore wanted it to be, mainly due to the real life ending of the Cold War (which Moore couldn't have predicted) making Rorschach automatically the good guy and Veidt the bad guy.
