Reliant, an early Earth starship.

Well it's been a while... but I've finally gotten around to picking this model up again, and have made some progress in adding detail. If I end up having the time for it, I'd like to make a sort of album showing a complete interstellar mission. The planet shown in the following images is what I imagine would be orbiting Proxima Centauri.

I'm thinking about doing scenes showing departure from Earth, and ways of possibly doing planetary surface images with the shuttlepods as well. :)

Amazing composition and ‘realness’! Any chance you could join the submissions at Doug Drexler’s Ships of the Line calendar?

Oh my … This is the most beautiful thing ever! Mind if I snatch that for use as a personal wallpaper?

Yes! @SCE2Aux, you should definitely try to get this published somewhere. :techman:
You're very welcome to use it as a wallpaper. On second look, I feel I might have been a bit heavy on the chromatic aberration - if you would like a verson without this effect, please let me know :)

I feel the model would need a bit of tightening up before I even think about submitting it for anything, let alone Ship of the Line, but thankyou very much for those positive comments :)

I like the ship a lot.

There is only one thing that I would have done in a different way. I would have had the pylons for the nacelles straight out to the sides, rather than angled. That would have given it a more primitive look. As it is, there is a little too much resemblance with the TOS Enterprise. But, I do consider that to be a very minor thing because the overall design is fantastic. :techman:

Nah, the angled pylons are perfect. They give it the undeniable Star Trek look, which paradoxically emphasizes the primitive elements all the more.

I'm experimenting with different ways of generating terrain features at the moment. Right now I've tried painting a displacement map in photoshop, but in future attempts I think that using some sort of sculpting program might be better at achieving the finer details I'd like to create.
Anyhow, this image shows my two shuttlepods descending onto a dry river bed. of the Proxima Centauri planet. :)

Those shuttlepods are just as nice as the ship itself, not too old tech looking, not too new tech looking, good mix and they look the part. :mallory:
