Like Invader Zim!Maybe he's the Dann of his race and they sent him on this mission even though they have no interest in joining the union just to keep him busy and get rid of him.

I actually liked In Theory, but now I can't help but think of it as the inferior version of Happy Refrain."In Theory" is not a very good show. Never was. It was pointless and dull.
That's going to be hard now that Data is dead. Now that Data has an emotion chip, he should find Jenna again.
B4 is ready to step up.That's going to be hard now that Data is dead.
B4 is ready to step up.
I’m talking novelverse Data. It’s just him and Lal at the moment.I actually liked In Theory, but now I can't help but think of it as the inferior version of Happy Refrain.

Data has no empathy.
I guess he uses ethics to replace empathy?

On a side note, I noticed how they cleverly sidestepped the question of where Isaac stands on the question of his homeworld joining the Planetary Union. I have this strange feeling that his planet is not contemplating joining the Union but rather whether or not to let it continue to exist-- and that their ultimate judgment will not be favorable.
That would be hilarious. The rest of the Robot People are all dreamy poets or something and Isaac is just defective.Maybe he's the Dann of his race and they sent him on this mission even though they have no interest in joining the union just to keep him busy and get rid of him.
That's kind of what I was thinking. The Robot People are the equivalent of Saberhagen's Berskers or Clarke's Monolith aliens, and Isaac's relationship with Claire puts him on the side of the Planetary Union. It is possible that he will continue to develop his programming to become more human, to the point that he will have to make a choice whether to stay with the Union or rejoin his people. I also really like the idea that perhaps his race is considering eradicating humanity and that the data he has been collecting has something to do with this. It is very possible that they become the Dominion or Borg of this series, which would also place Isaac in an Odo style role.

Which isn't canon and therefore doesn't count.I’m talking novelverse Data.
I really liked this episode as well, but don't have much to add to what has already been said. I do have some thoughts on Isaac.

Is B4 also "fully functional" ?
