THE ORVILLE S2, E4: "NOTHING LEFT ON EARTH EXCEPTING FISHES"

Best episode of the season thus far. We all knew Tyler was a Krill spy but I didn't expect her to be the teacher they spared from season one.

Gave me warm fuzzy nostalgia for all the BermanTrek episodes everyone previously mentioned.

Shouldnt Gordon's big command test come at the END of his training? You know, so he can apply all the command stuff he's learned in the training program?

I really dislike Dan. Expecting an episode where he gets redshirted and literally nobody cares.

 

I like Dann.

 

Dann is good for one line per episode.

 

Yeah, maybe two or so. But I like him okay, liked him (in the sense were supposed to be annoyed by him) in the episode with him dating Alara.

 

As long as Dann is not in every episode I can tolerate him. At least he isn't as annoying as Tharl.

 

I somehow missed the fact that Shazad Latif was originally announced as playing Voq only to be "recast" as Tyler with Javid Iqbal "replacing" him as Voq and I still managed to figure out the twist. Really, it was as obvious as a bright neon sign staring you in the face in the dead of night.

 

Elevator casualty.

 

Just got to watch this episode. The Orville just continues to impress me.

 

It's the ones that look at first like they're going to be a little thin or trivial that turn out to really grab and surprise me - this episode, "A Happy Refrain." The one that looked most promising on the surface this year, IMO, turned out to be a dud.

In this respect, the show reminds me a bit of TNG when it was new and kind of exciting - the two episodes of the first season that were exceptionally good, IMO, and that I'll stop and watch again if they happen to be on H&1 are the two least TOS-like of them: "The Big Goodbye" and "Conspiracy."

 

Latif was originally announced to play Kol. But the initial description of Kol was like Voq. It would have been less suspicious if they admitted he was playing 2 roles than using a fake actor name for Voq.

 

I just binge-watched the entirety of The Orville and cannot believe how enjoyable it is.

This was my favorite episode of the series. Since I watched everything over the span of 7-10 days, I didn't catch that Michaela McManus was playing Teleya in "Krill," so although I realized as soon as she was being "tortured" in a different room that she was going to be a Krill spy, I didn't make the Teleya connection far earlier, as so many of you watching in real time must have done.

I found the dynamic between Ed and Janel/Teleya to be fascinating, particularly since Teleya was clearly intrigued by or attracted to Ed when he was posing as a Krill in the first season and she was still "just" a teacher. Also, Michaela's acting was *outstanding.* She went from Ed's perfect woman to contraction-avoiding evil gal quite seamlessly, I thought. Their interactions on the planet and at the prisoner exchange were just perfect. I am already looking forward to her next appearance.
