Why isn't anyone talking about the Super Pets movie that was also announced? As much as I love Batfleck, I'm fairly certain that's it for him. WB is clearly more focused on individual films for the time being, and there definitely won't be any crossover movies all the way through 2021, and very likely not in 2022 considering that's when some of the New Gods, Batgirl, Flash, GLC, and Aquaman, Shazam and BoP sequels will come out. And after that if and when they do decide to team up Batman with some of the other heroes, they'll probably just go for the fresh new one. I'd love it if Affleck and WB did a one-off Elseworlds take with him directing his script, but realistically I just don't see that happening. Looking forward to the internet once more declaring whoever they pick next as THE. WORST. CHOICE. EVER!
I believe Batflecks is contractually supposed to be in one more DC film, however it might be a brief appearance, like his blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in Suicide Squad.
I'm in. Would have preferred a live action film but maybe a way to test the waters long term. Definitely in. A noirish Detective Batman has been a long time coming. Look forward to this fresh take. Although I thought Batfleck was actually one of the positive points of the whole DC Universe debacle.
I would love too see Affleck and Momoa teamup in a Brave and the Bold style adventure. Heck that could happen in the Aquaman sequel.
This is my thinking as well. Hell, if I was in charge of production for the DC movies, that's exactly what I would propose. Just make ensemble movies from now on. Batman/Green Arrow and Batman/Aquaman Superman/The Atom JL Dark Cyborg and the Metal Men Titans Green Lantern and Star Sapphire Blue Beetle and Booster Gold Birds of Prey (already happening) Deathstroke and Vigilante etc
I think a Justice League movie will happen some day, but a sequel to Justice League(2017) is not happening. That's done. They'll probably call it The Justice League.
I really like the idea of a noir Batman, although I am disappointed Aflleck is definitely out, I liked his Batman. I'm very curious about Super Pets, I confess I have a bit of a soft spot for animated talking animal movie. I wonder if it will be fully animated or more of a Jungle Books type live action/animation hybrid. Personally, I think it would be more fun to see the later. I wonder how they'll handle to first Suicide Squad movie in relation to Gunn's movie? Usually I would it would be erased or ignored, but the fact that we're apparently still going to have Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn still running around does complicate things a bit. Hasn't Bane been a member of the Squad in at least one incarnation?
I thought Affleck dropped out to recover from substance abuse? If so ..it would be wise to live life before committing to anything big. Does he have other projects in production??
I disagree. The end of Justice League set up a sequel, and with the DCEU not going away anytime soon, a payoff to that setup is inevitable.
Like anything in Hollywood: If the money's right, the script's right, and the Studio is on board, we'll see Ben Affleck in the Cowl again (Same with Henry Cavil and Superman).
Or recasting. The characters are bigger than the actors. Always have been. So did Solo. Sometimes things change.
I doubt they'd go for that, given that the most successful DCEU movies (or at least the best-reviewed ones) have been Wonder Woman and Aquaman, while the team-up movies have been less well-received. I think the likely trend is to favor standalones over shared-universe stuff. If DC is commissioning an animated comedy movie at this time, then there's a strong probability that they're trying to imitate Into the Spider-Verse. So I'd expect cartoony CG animation. It could be ambiguous about it. Look at Aquaman -- it's nominally in the same universe as BvS and JL, but aside from a throwaway line or two referencing JL, it's completely unconnected to what came before. All a sequel has to do to distance itself from its predecessor is just not mention it.
A follow-up story to Solo can either still be told in a film or via other mediums. With the DCEU, there's only one avenue to pay off JL's sequel setup, and that's through a second film.
^^^ Ever heard of a Graphic Novel? (My point? If someone see a profit, ANY mass medium is still possible. Hell, multiple realities/timelines occur in the comic book medium all the time).
There has never been a graphic novel made that is set in the DCEU shared universe, and I don't see any reason why there ever would be. WB wants its DC filmic stuff to actually be, you know, filmed.
Warner Bros. wants to MAKE MONEY - ergo, they'll put the story in a different medium if they don't see a film as profitable, but see a different medium will work for them to a degree they find acceptable.
At the same time, Harley Quinn and the BOP and Suicide Squad 2 are in production. So, WB isn't off the ensemble train. Putting like with like characters, such as Batman and Green Arrow and or Cyborg and the Metal Men in a movie would be the easist way to expand the brand and showcase more of the characters we all know and love.
And a lot of what BvS set up was thrown out by the time Justice League hit the screen... Nothing about Justice League really needs a sequel, and if even Suicide Squad is getting basically a reboot, and that was a much bigger hit than Justice League, I just don't see 'em going out of their way to make a sequel to it.
