Season 2 Episode 1 is free to watch on the CBS All Access Youtube Channel (USA Only)

Mary Sues are perfect and infallable. Kirk had some spectacular disasters on his watch, and admitted to Spock he was out of his depth and just doing his best.

Burnham fucked up too, with her botched mutiny and then revenge-killing T'Kuvma when taking him alive was her idea.

Mary Sue's are also self inserts of the writer.

Wesley is closer to a Mary Sue than Burnham is.

Had RT been around in the late 80s you can bet a contingent of fans would be heavily downvoting TNG.

Interestingly, DIS is only a point below ENT in user ratings on IMDB. Three and five points below VOY and DS9 respectively. Only TOS and TNG are rated above 8 and in the top rated shows.

IMDB's Ratings

TOS - 8.3 (link)
TNG - 8.6 (link)
DS9 - 7.9 (link)
VOY - 7.7 (link)
ENT - 7.5 (link)
DSC - 7.4 (link)

This is what happens when you DON'T have #Haters who are trying to over-inflate a site with negative ratings, and when you don't have have a disproportionate number of over-reactionaries voting.

Not to mention IMDB has more voters than Rotten Tomatoes and is thus a better representation of overall opinions all the way around.

There are definitely hate votes on IMDb (read some of the reviews, if you dare), the difference is that IMDb is not as prolific as RT has become in recent years and its not as simplified as “fresh” and “rotten”. Plus films and shows rarely make it to 8 and 9, only the most highly rated make it up there.

I think the Haters on IMDB are just more vocal, not more numerous. Otherwise, they would've impacted DSC's rating a lot more.

Being streaming, this number is pretty much meaningless. All that matters is that enough folks are subscribing to All Access, watching on Netflix.
Yeah the numbers look ok, not amazing but ok, they really should have shown the first episode on the normal CBS channel, it would have helped.

1) All the prior shows are 18 - 31 years older (meaning there's been more time to digest and ingest their various Trek canon violations and inconsistencies. ST: D is just a little over 1 year old. ;)

How can anyone be against social justice?

I'm a fan of social justice and I loathe SJWs. I see social justice and individuals coined as SJWs as two different things. For example, I care about the disproportionate amount of African-American men in prison in the US... but I don't give a flying fuck about 'mansplaining'

BTW current results on youtube: 1.7k :techman: and 1.2k:thumbdown:.
Which is pretty bad for a channel and upload where See-BS can control the narrative.

As divisive as the Titans trailers, and insiders reveal that the bad press hurt that show and it lost money.

If STD is starting off at a 7.4, it will drop over time.

I'm amazed that Enterprise is at a 7.5 given the strong fan distaste towards it, and the general audience apathy towards it. It's Neilson ratings took a nosedive.

CW Supergirl fans will probably still make excuses that IMDB is driven by trolls and fanboys, with it sitting at a 6.5. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4016454/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 A score too high for that show IMO.

Hahahaha! You are either too young, or don't recall all they "Hey look Star Trek put an "Angry Black Man" ™ in charge of DS9 comments the Alt-Right had in the day; or how they look at TNG now IE:

- Hey they have a Black Engineer tending to the ship's engines...
- They have a Black bartender serving drinks in 10 Forward...
- They have a Black person playing a Klingon animal person...

(Yes, people are wondering why the Alt-Right has a problem? It's that they now see a character they can't stick into a menial sounding trope. That's how we now have Star Trek fans claiming SJWs are 'ruining Star Trek')

I was too young at the time, but if that's true. It was a small, inconsequential group that didn't have a platform. Things are certainly vastly different today.

Though I've seen enough bordline Alt-Right channels today that are hardcore defenders of DS9 and Sisko as great Star Trek, while hating on Discovery.

Some great ones

I don't know. Then again, I can't really say until the whole season has played out. So far I see less complaining about S2 than S1, so I think over time, S1 will be seen as the "least" favorite. So I don't see how it will go down. I don't know if it'll go up either. I think it'll probably stay put.

This I agree with. I still don't see what people on here like about the show, but that's another story.

Also the Mary Sue thing. You say Burnham. I say NuKirk. Cutting-and-pasting something I several months ago about how I think Burnham is being held to a different standard...

Lol. No one is defending the Pine Kirk. He was a failed version of Kirk from a failed franchise. It was divisive among Trek fans and wasn't the hit with general audiences that Paramount hoped it would be. A lot of that comes down to how they handled their protagonist.

I have yet to see anyone praising or defending the 'Cadet to Captain' nonsense.

Let's see how it fares this week, when all the uglier elements of S1 return in full force.

It used to be at a 7.3 last year IIRC.

Being in the 7s on IMDb is actually very good. I would have thought this show not survive in the 7s with the amount of hate, but there it is.
