This might seem like a rather suspicious first comment to be making here on TrekBBS, so I'll make a quick note that I'm JeffZero. I used to post here a ton several years ago. I switched accounts because of a legal name change; I don't want to associate with the "Jeff" thing anymore. No clue if anyone will remember me but I'm just trying to point out that I'm not some random fresh-joined concern troll or something.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that unfortunately the like-to-dislike ratio is now 546 to 646. The rabid Doomcock whatever-the-fraks have flooded the page and they're gloating that the video only has 172k views because Doomcock was informed about the free episode. The "CBS literally can't give this away for free" upvotes are all over the damn place.

Yeah, I know, these people are a minority, but it ain't great to see a like-to-dislike ratio slant like that one. It sends a bad message through the pipeline. I'd advise y'all to give the video your likes if you haven't already done so.

...I can't seem to edit my posts yet and that back-to-back "I just wanted to point out" phrasing is killing me inside. I have sinned. :brickwall:

I think we had pretty much already assumed that that was going to be the case eventually anyway.

(I believe you need 30 some odd posts to be able to EDIT, so just keep on doing what yer doing and you'll be able to fix it eventually)

Ah, OK! I will indeed come back whenever I've hit 30 posts and edit that first one. I am... ridiculous.

...and now I’ve seen two eps of Disc. This was significantly better than the pilot last year.
Don’t know why they don’t put season one on Netflix and get the ad revenue.
I get why online, though. Except for football. Many people never watch the network.

They did it for first season too. But I liked that strategy better. They should have showed this episode on CBS broadcast network instead of youtube.
Why? They are going after 'cord cutters"; so if anything, they should have put S1 Ep. 1 on YouTube last year too.

This is not a good sign, imo. CBS already giving new episodes away for free to entice new subscribers.

It's extraordinarily likely that CBS AA is going to spontaneously combust in a matter of mere hours, and StarTrek Discovery will be quarantined indefinitely to protect all of Western Society as we know it.

What a shame.

I like that they're putting it on YouTube. It will expose it to a lot of poeple that otherwise wouldn't have seen it, although it does seem a little bit desperate. I would have disabled comments and like/dislikes if I were them.

I would've thought they'd show the season 2 premier on the network like they did with season 1.

People who don't like STD are in the minority? I see places like TrekBBS where the overwhelming majority like it, but I also see places where the overwhelming majority hate it. It seems pretty 50/50 to me from my internet travels, which isn't good thing for CBS.

So pretty much like every Star Trek series since TOS/TNG.

I'll watch it but it doesn't make me giddy. I appreciate the work they put into the visuals but maybe that kind of investment will be their undoing. Too much money into it but not enough money back maybe. It doesn't look good that people in this forum of all places are being pessimistic about its reception :)

Yep too much money spent on action or visuals for ST is a bad idea.

They tried to turn the TNG movies into action movies, they had moderate success, it burned out quickly and failed.
They tired to have the Kelvinverse movies be big budget action movies, they had moderate success, it burned out quickly and failed.

Now they putting a bunch of money into Discovery's visuals and ramping up the action. I wonder what the result will be. I'd say it's had moderate success so far...

Could you please name a Star Trek show that has always received a universally positive reaction?

Seeing as how TOS was pitched as an action adventure series, I'll disagree on this point.
