Tarantino Trek - what could we expect?

I feel the same way I felt when I heard Justin Lin was going to direct Beyond and unfortunately that prediction turned out to be true. Beyond was a mess. So, my reaction is 'It's happening, let's see what happens,' while knowing I probably won't like it, but hoping I'm wrong.

I feel the same. My gut feeling was right so far and my gut feeling says that Tarantino wouldn't make a movie I like and if he uses this cast, he might ruin all the good this trilogy still has. I don't want to get a movie that I'll have to ignore and pretend it didn't happen.
On the other hand though, I'm still curious about what his idea is. It's one of those crazy things you just want to know more about to see how crazy they are.
I'm also like.. maybe he'd surprise me. I want him to prove me wrong.

Eta:

The article mentions what I was saying in the other thread: the mega deal with bad robot expiring doesn't meant they can't continue this trek with them, just like bad robot and JJ were allowed to do star wars while having a deal with Paramount.

If Bad Robot can continue co-producing the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE flicks then there's no reason they won't be involved with Trek. IIRC, it was because of Tarantino's friendship with Abrams that he was able to come into the Paramount offices to deliver his pitch. If Abrams is supporting him, then presumably so is Bad Robot.

I'm pretty sure the next two planned M:I films are Bad Robot-free, even though they have the same director as the last two BR-produced efforts.

Ha ha ha a QT Trek, maybe a Kill Bill style with Romulans or Klingons?
Balance of Terror remake? City on the edge of forever is a great idea. I also stated somewhere else around here that the Doomsday machine would be a great movie. There is plenty of time to introduce Decker and tell the story of his encounter with the machine. You could really show one great battle and the loss of his crew as it attacked and destroyed the planet they were on.
Reading any of this Mr. Tarantino?

Tarantino has stated that he will retire after directing ten motion pictures. Or after turning 60 years old.

Tarantino has directed nine major motion pictures, and will turn 60 in 2023. Might Star Trek be his last movie?

I think Tarentino trek should be trek 4. with Tarantino involved they should just recast Pine as kirk. Tarantino has bigger star power than both Pine and Helmsworth.

I would expect nostalgia from Tarantino in a good way and for the first time ever to respect TOS as a great piece of science fiction and adventure. Something The Voyage Home accomplished and all of the other movies failed to do with their comic booky villains to top Ricardo Montalban.

could just see QT bringing back TOS aesthetic (updated of course but not to the extent the 3 JJ movies were) and doing a like true big budget version of TOS...or actually maybe more likely to be TMP or TWOK (as JJ/JLin pretty much covered TOS era.. and the actors ages would be more in line with TMP era) ...so being very faithful to TMP or TWOK era ... like a period piece. a recreation of a SF movie/Star Trek movie of the late 70s (TMP) or early 80s (TWOK).. same uniforms, sets, FX (even down to using model FX over CGI)

I imagine pine would happily sign up for whatevers offered if QT is directing

Updating the visual aesthetic isn't the issue (at least for me) it would be avoiding what Abrams did and so radically changing the original characters to near completely new characters.

Somebody like Karl Urban described QT's idea as absolutely nuts, but presumably meant that in a good way.

J.J. Abrams was obviously in on it and certain members of the 2008-13 cast must've been considered need-to-know.

I still hold on to the unlikely idea that QT is deep down, some huge fanboy of the whole franchise, and his last movie is just to indulge himself basically playing with Trek action figures and starships on a massive scale. That he somehow wants to play around in the toybox and produce this epic coming together of multi-series and film cast members. Probably go down in flames at the Box Office, with every member of the audience needing a free complimentary Star Trek Encyclopaedia to understand it all... but it'd make its money back after.

The idea Quentin Tarantino even wants to make a Star Trek movie, continues to fascinate me. And looking at his track record for employing actors from fading cult classics he grew up with, I think seeing familiar faces would be inevitable.

Urbans 'nuts/bananas' comments (didn't he say something similar about Orci's ST3 back in 2014?) along with that QT interview about his wanting to do big screen version of Yesterdays Enterprise meets City on the Edge and his love of Shatner (88 today:)) to me infers its probably going to be something along the lines of the JJ cast crossing into the Primeverse and encountering the older 'prime' movie versions of TOS characters (via CGI) and/or TNG/DS9/VOY in an epic Yesterdays Enterprise/Bring Back Kirk type story. 'Star Trek: Avengers' really (that 'normal' film goers would check out as well as QT would make it an event)

Yet again I think you're overestimating the general public/audience's knowledge of these other trek series. Most people under 35 have no idea about DS9 or voyager. Kirk, spock, and probably Picard are the only well known characters in the main these days and as Picards getting his own series that just leaves the other two, and the movie well has dried up with these really hasn't it.
