It's a taunt. Try not to read too much into it.

I can see a follow up meme with Rachel Dolezal saying "well, I am not afraid to be black"...

I bet the Chicago crew filmed a lot of skyline footage that they could go on using for establishing shots and FX background plates, like how Supergirl still uses LA skyline shots.

Yup. Which is what I expected.

No way they were not going to film the show in Vancouver.

Black Lightning films in Atlanta. Although it doesn't cross over with the Arrowverse shows (so far), while presumably Batwoman will from time to time.

I doubt they'll leave her out of Crisis On Infinite Earths.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Black Lightning appeared in that. If they could fly Amell, Gustin, and Benoist to Chicago for a crossover, they could fly one or two BL cast members up to Vancouver.

Black Lightning will never be made part of the Arrowverse; the Akils have zero interest in that idea and have said as much several times.

Just because something is the case today, that doesn't mean it's impossible for it to change. People seem to forget that when Supergirl was new, the network execs and producers insisted for months that it would never cross over with the Arrowverse, and then the Flash showed up before the end of the first season.

It's natural that the makers of Black Lightning would want their show to establish its own identity and voice when it was new. That's something many people didn't seem to get when they were clamoring for immediate crossovers. But a more established series that's made its name has less reason to resist such a crossover. Lots of shows end up doing crossovers and other things in later seasons that they resisted doing when they were new, because once they've firmly established their identity, they're able to loosen up more and be more indulgent from time to time.

Besides, even the makers of a show don't have absolute power over it, because they're subject to the wishes of the network. Like when Syfy crossed over Warehouse 13 with both Eureka and Alphas, even though the three shows should never have been in the same universe (Eureka was soft sci-fi where everything had a scientific if fanciful explanation; W13 was urban fantasy revolving around supernatural phenomena; and Alphas was a grounded, serious take on a superhero/mutant story). When Alphas had a guest appearance by Lindsay Wagner's recurring W13 character, it seemed pretty clear that the writers were trying to minimize the crossover as much as possible, avoiding any overt references to any aspect of W13 aside from the character herself, so I doubt the producers of that show really wanted the crossover to happen. It always felt like something mandated by Syfy. So I can see the same thing happening with The CW, BL, and the Arrowverse. If The CW thinks a BL crossover would boost ratings, then they'll push the producers to do it, and it's probably only a matter of time before they give in.

Not to mention how much the Berlanti folks like giving the fans what they want. Just last month in the crossover, we got the 1990 Flash, AMAZO, Lois Lane, Batwoman, a ton of Gotham City stuff, and confirmation of the fan theory that John Diggle = John Stewart in at least one universe. That's a ton of stuff we never expected, and they delivered. So by now we should've learned how foolish it is to assume the Arrowverse will never, ever do something. Doing things we thought it would never, ever do has become its trademark.

That isn't what they said (as has been reiterated time and again); what they said was that crossovers were not their focus at the time they were being asked about them.

Conversely, the Akils' consistent answer every time they've been asked about the possibility of crossing the show over with the other Berlanti Productions superhero series on The CW has been an unequivocal "No, because we're not interested in that" .

Aside from the possibility that the Akils admitted themselves that their attitude might change over time, there's also the possibility that they might simply be replaced. While I hope this won't be misconstrued into "Kai hopes that" (certainly not), producers and showrunners can obviously be dropped and replaced without the audience even knowing, whether by their own choice or not.

For some reason, certain fans seem desperate for Black Lightning to be tossed into the Arrowverse, when that little group of shows are so different from Black Lightning's tone, inspiration, execution and most importantly, sociopolitical message, that a crossover would be the equivalent of forcing a union of the 1977 New Adventures of Batman cartoon with the "Timmvere" Batman: the Animated Series--two completely different worlds with no commonality whatsoever. The spirit of Black Lightning is truly its own--unique--and should not be forced to play to the ideas, framework or production standards of other series.

Black Lightning will join them once their main arc is finished. It'll be an interesting one to do since certain DC characters there are fictional characters.

No biggie. Jay Garrick was a fictional character on Earth-1 in the comics. The Hulk was briefly a fictional character in an early issue of the Fantastic Four.

Yeah but this will be the first time they'll address it in the TV show if it happens.

Black Lightning has already retconned one such reference. Early on in season 1, Grace mentioned Looker as a known superhero, but in a recent arc, we had Looker as a racist cult leader in the backwoods of "South Freeland." Although I suppose it's possible the cult leader named herself after an existing comics character.
