The best tv show Ever

TNG and DS9 are both really fucking nerdy, but in their own unique way, and appealing to different nerd factions. Let me explain visually:

This guy loves TNG:

The 2nd is a reportedly a gross sexual harrasser and not who you want as the DS9 poster boy. Ew.

Honestly, I don't think either of those images is in any way helpful to discussion. It's just perpetuating old, tired stereotypes.

Didn't know that!

Was honestly just trying to be funny. I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time, as is my wife and several old, great friends from all walks of life. Nothing stereotypically nerdy about any of them, to be honest.

Apologies if the humor was misunderstood.

Look, I'm an in and out 9er, I think its the best Star Trek put on the small screen for me, by a country mile, but I respect that not everyone shares that opinion.

But to say its the best TV show ever?

I think its severely underrated by the general population and I think there's plenty of episodes that elevate it to being, definitely up there, but as an overall package, I think it does fall short to quite a few competitors, certainly Game of Thrones up to the end of Season 6 is IMO far superior, just as an example.

I think if you made DS9 today, fewer Episodes, higher production value per episode, more character development, set over the Dominion War, you'd have something truly special on your hands, but you would lose some stuff too, you couldn't do mirror universe, you couldn't do Far Beyond The Stars, so there's that to consider.

Honestly, DS9 has dropped way down my list of top TV shows. It came out before TV got really good with things like The Sopranos and The Wire.

Even if you think DS9 sometimes reaches those heights, it doesn’t happen very often.

But that's what makes it so good! It came a decade before today's 21st century dramatic TV storytelling. Anticipated it, really.

I find the characters more "real" and I just love all of them with the exception of the dominion related folks. How they make it all one long story is great. I saw an episode recently where Garak and O'Brien were traveling to a Deep Space 9 like place to retrieve some needed items to repair some DS9 items and at one point, Garak is asking O'Brien to play a board game with him, as Nog was playing it all wrong and O'Brien declined. Garak then goes into a rant about O'Brien and Bashir spending hour together in the holodecks playing games. Too hysterical.

True, but I still don’t think it stands up too well against those newer shows. DS9 is my top Trek, but I’m still taking a chance on quality if i choose a random episode. For every Duet, there’s a Profit and Lace.

Presumably, if all shows made post-1999 were erased, you'd rate DS9 highly?

I'd just hope no one is comparing DS9's worst ("Move Along Home") with, say, Game of Thrones' best ("The Battle of the Bastards"). Apples and oranges, I say.

I'm not much into "new" shows. I find most of them boring. I do like Game of Thrones, but I find the character exploration quite lame as to the two main characters, Jon Snow and Dany, though they do better with some of the other characters.
