    Marsden is very sad.
Maybe because the director of the Robocop remake didn't go out of his way to be insulting?

I can't think of remakes that have garned that much hate but I can think of sequels that have. All the prequel "Star Wars" movies especially Phantom Menace. "Batman and Robin" "Aliens 3", :Godfather 3" and etc. I think the hate can be connected to just how beloved it's franchise or previous movies were loved. Then you toss in the added political nature of how the conflict got going with the new "Ghostbusters" it's easy to see how the anger got more tense. PLus the blasted internet has really helped the more morally loose people out their with what use to be hate mail and now is hate tweets.

I'm not really sure what we're all arguing about here. We are seem to agree on the issues.

It's perfectly understandable that Leslie Jones is upset about her movie being ditched especially after what she went through. Of course, the movie did bomb, so Sony would be foolish to make a sequel. A continuation of the original series makes more business sense.

Ghostbusters 2016 received a lot of disgusting, misogynistic hate that became political/social and went far beyond the movie itself. However, the movie did fail to connect with general audiences and Ghostbusters fans for reasons that had nothing to do with sexism.

It's unfortunate that the movie wasn't a success and those disgusting alt-right people who shat on the movie and Leslie Jones don't get to win, but it wasn't a success and they do get to win. However, there are plenty of Ghostbusters fans who disliked the new movie for non-sexist reasons who are excited to have the original continuity back.

I feel like that’s a lot of projection, much like how some people claim that the people making Discovery hate Star Trek and are intentionally making it “terrible” despite their only evidence being the fact that they personally don’t like it.

You mean Feig treating the doofuses like doofuses during interviews? Because there wasn't anything "insulting" about the movie itself, and though I saw no problem with Feig's remarks I imagine they annoyed some people.

I have no idea what people were saying or what he said because I wasn't even on the internet then, but I am not sure why a director would even get involved in those kind of debates. Never insult people who your trying to pry money, from. There is a reason why most studio's do the opposite and that is kiss-ass or just say nothing at all. You usually do the honesty thing about your movie and everything involved with it,years later when it no longer matters in terms of sales or profit.

Except Feig and McCarthy were reported insulting people in the lead-up to the film's release, which isn't a good approach regardless of how warranted it is.

Feig, "Geek culture is home to some of the biggest assholes I've ever met in my life" (Which in fairness is undoubtedly true, and the assholes he refers to are the minority.)
McCarthy, "What they don’t say when they’re typing is that one minute after they type their Mom is like, ‘Get upstairs and take out the garbage! You’re 45 years old!’" (Which is a pretty lame geek insult.)

And yes, both have good reason to say these things.

I like Leslie Jones in SNL. But she is a one note actress, with a style not compatible with what Ghostbusters fans like about Ghostbusters.

The writers of that Ghostbusters movie clearly did not understand their audience, and using a cast of all women was *not* their mistake.

The McCarthy line sounds like a good joke. Not sure if she was being serious or not when she said it.

I'm not a big fan of Leslie Jones on SNL but she does much better as a actor. Plus I hear she is really good at stand up but I have never seen her do it so I can't say.

I perceived the 2016 GB to be more in the tradition of films like the 21 Jumpstreet movies.

Dort of like Original, but a Shift to a somewhat silly comedy version.

It‘s an odd choice in this case, because the original was also a comedy, just of a different flavor.

Let‘s be thankful it didn‘t come on the heels of Scary Movie....

Some people deserved to be insulted because of what they did and I wouldn't call that insulting the fans or the original. It's responding to horrific behavior, it's not like it was unprovoked. These idiots can't attack people and then act offended when they get insulted.

Like I said, they both had good reason to say what they said.

That might make sense if we are talking about regular people but here we are talking about people also trying to sell a product including to the people that might get offended by assuming they are talking about all fans because people do that all the time. Take things such as personal insults being directed at them even if they aren't talking about them. I'm not sure if I buy into the idea that all publicity is good even bad publicity. Usually the thing that is expected is some generic statement talking about how they don't approve of the behavior and etc and they hope people will like the movie and judge it on it's merrits and more etc.

Jumping into a fight instead of just ignoring it like most studios have done forever when it comes to fans doesn't seem to make sense from a business point-of-view. I don't understand why people care so much about what is being said about them on twitter especially when their in Hollywood basically living their dream and a life many would envy. Granted this coming from someone who doesn't use twitter so could someone tell me what is so great and fascinating about the place?

Sony's money-driven. If the box office had justified a sequel to 2016 they'd be doing that. They don't give a fuck about Internet <ahem> "terrorists."

Personally, I don't give a crap about this upcoming movie, but I'd love a sequel to 2016. I'd also like The Orville to have about a million more viewers a week because I want it to continue. But the numbers are the numbers, and there's no point in getting worked up about what other people choose not to do with their time and money.

I made that point myself if you want to stop being dismissive. Sony is desperate, there has been talk on shutting down all film development and focusing on electronics like the PS4 which is their largest revenue source.

What other possible movie franchises does Sony have? I have trouble keeping track sometimes with who owns the movie rights to this and that. They own Spiderman stuff except Spiderman unless it seems it's a cartoon?

I don't object to being called dismissive of rhetoric like "giving into terrorists."

Men in Black and Spider-Man are their biggest name properties. Spidey is a bit of an issue since Marvel owns some of the rights and they don’t get all the profit from merchandise. I think they own He-Man and want to get that off the ground, but they’ve been having trouble with it.

What do you call death threats, harassment, doxxing and other crimes in the name of a very specific agenda?
