GhostBusters 3 is Finally Being Made. (2020 Release)

iMcCarthy, "What they don’t say when they’re typing is that one minute after they type their Mom is like, ‘Get upstairs and take out the garbage! You’re 45 years old!’" (Which is a pretty lame geek insult.)

And yes, both have good reason to say these things.

One could say the same about the 'progressive' (actually emoprogressive ) Tumblr-based majority female fandom of this popular TV series that drove a young girl to commit suicide simply because she drew fanart of the main character's mother as a slim woman rather than as the fat woman she actually is (differences being the ladies have own apartment and are younger, but that's a minor detail.)

Just sayin' (and let it be still known, I'm still not excusing those male Ghostbusters fans that acted the way they did back in 2016.)

Not entirely dead, I believe the game and the comics have been fairly popular. The comics have been coming out pretty steadily since 2008.
Yeah, Ghosbusters is still way to popular for them to just let it die, so the options are either a) do a sequel to the flop reboot, b) do another reboot, c) return to the original universe. Of the three options c) is only one that is almost a guaranteed hit.
Or d) make it GHOSTBUSTERS INTERNATIONAL like the MIB.

Agreed, though it's still going to be a challenge without Harold ramis. For me the first two films worked because of the original cast of characters. Even Annie Potts and Rick moranis were good minor characters. Take them out of the equation and you're going to have hard time making it work. I didn't bother with the last one because a.) trailer didn't sell me on it and b.) I have no interest in watching today's SNL people in a two hour movie. I don't care how many bells and whistles you throw on it.They aren't funny IMO, male or female. Cast better performers the next go around and hopefully it works out.

Some people deserved to be insulted because of what they did and I wouldn't call that insulting the fans or the original. It's responding to horrific behavior, it's not like it was unprovoked. These idiots can't attack people and then act offended when they get insulted.

I disagree, I don't think anyone deserves to be insulted. Disputed, argued against, legal action taken as appropriate, but not insulted. Insulting someone doesn't make anything better. If someone is actually threatening that is serious and should be reported. If someone is being a fool telling them they are being foolish is not an insult, it's a statement. Too many of these "insults" are too broad anyway and people that had nothing to with any of it feel insulted as well. It just perpetuates the cycle of hate.

Martin Luther King said Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love... Our aim must never be to defeat or humiliate the white man, but to win his friendship and understanding. I believe that, and insulting a group of people is not helpful in any situation.

On another take, this also reminds me of an episode of Frasier. Daphne found a bar in Seattle that was like an English pub and she started to hang out there, Frasier trailed her and found the place and he had good feelings of hanging out at Cheers so decided to show up too. Daphne felt uncomfortable with her boss being at her hang-out spot so she trick Frasier into an argument and then threw in some general insults at Americans, which Frasier started up with insults about English and even the queen which got all of the English angry and they banned him for good even though he liked it there his insults insulted everyone and not just Daphne. Other people than you intent can easily be insulted and you could lose a friend or even make an enemy with no intention of doing so.

I'm sorry this wasn't about the movie, I'll stop now unless some movie news comes up to comment on. I'm interested in this but as I said upthread I'm not convinced it will happen. Also, it's over a year away, I don't spend years waiting for something that lasts two hours and may very well be bad after all. There's been many properties rebooted or brought back as a continuation and I've been disappointed with just about all of them.

Haha. It's funny how easily you guys misinterpret things. Almost like you want to look for anything to find offense in. Never commented about women specifically there.

Was her statement logical? Nope.

Was it driven by emotion? Yep.

Is that par for the course regarding who we are dealing with? Yep.

From a financial standpoint, Sony is doing the 100% right thing. You don't continue a franchise that failed and lost you money.

If tears mourning GB 2016 need to be shed, so be it.
Not to mention the fact that we've known for three years that a sequal to that movie wasn't happening ....

In an October 2016 interview, Feig told Bustlethat a sequel was not in the works, but could be possible if the film performed well on its home release.[157] By November, Feig confirmed that a direct sequel would not be made due to the film's mediocre box office performance.[158] The same month, Reitman stated in an interview that other Ghostbusters projects were in development.[159]

So this news shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

I try not to judge what others do and don't deserve - I insult people out of my grand sense of generosity.

I think that's the idea - to move to something like that after they get GBIII made.

Would like to add to this that there is commentary out there from Dan Aykroyd that states he warned Paul Feig a few times that they would need a large action scene at the end of GB2016 to make it work.

Paul refused and said he didn't need it. After a test screening they determined that they did need a large sequence and apparently it pushed GB2016 over budget by millions.

This is, apparently, why there is no sequel to GB2016. It has nothing to do with vaginas or tweets. It was money. If GB2016 had done 1$B internationally I am sure SONY would forgive and forget.

Men in Black and Spider-Man are their biggest name properties. Spidey is a bit of an issue since Marvel owns some of the rights and they don’t get all the profit from merchandise. I think they own He-Man and want to get that off the ground, but they’ve been having trouble with it.
They also bought the rights to the Valiant Comics universe, and have already working on at least one movie for that, Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel.

I'd consider that part of c since it would most likely be set in the original universe.
They actually did a Ghostbusters International story as part of the ongoing comic series, in this case it was the original team traveling through Europe.

I think they should set this movie in LA. I actually think the 2016 one should have been there. They need to get out of New York IMO. That ground has been covered. I kind of like the idea of them becoming a big hit and them encountering flaky LA people. Also maybe encounter a few ghost celebrities like James Dean or his car which I think is suppose to be haunted. "Supernatural" kindo f touched on that myth.
Another idea is the 2016 movie is a movie within in this movie and maybe you can get some humor out of all the drama from it where people some are pissed that the movie ignored what really happened in the 80's and it's those dam millininials not knowing their history as opposed to those who did like it because it was progressive and who cares if they took artistic liberties with the truth. Even great if you could get the 2016 actors to play themselves in a cameo but I doubt that would do it. Also if they are going to do their version of the state puff marshmellow man how about a giant Bill Murray if they can only get him to do a cameo.?

Europe would be cool. I mean, it already has a bit more supernatural history than I feel NY has, and besides, I'm kind of tired of seeing the same skyline. A move elsewhere I feel would invigorate the franchise. There's plenty of opportunity.

New Orleans would also be a good choice. Of course if they are going to go for the team being kids and trying to go for a "Stranger Things" feel that might mean small town, America. Or this might be even more crazy but a sea cruise type of ship out in the Bermuda Triangle.

New Orleans would be a GREAT choice. The town would lend itself well to high stakes shenanigans as well as a more spooky atmosphere. Only problem would be that I'm sure the filmakers would put a mardis gras sequence in and that's another thing that's starting to become old hat.

Instead of mardis gras maybe they could set the movie during Halloween. Or even Christmas. Combine the movie with a Holiday theme to add more flavor to the setting.

If they leave New York it has to be D.C.

Doing a scene like the courtroom scene in GBII in the U.S. Capitol would be delicious.

I think Blues Brothers 2000 should have been enough to disabuse anyone of the notion that Dan Aykroyd has anything left in his creative tank. He decided to throw Feig under the bus because he's just cranky that Murray won't let him make his (utterly horrible) Hellbent script.

I believe the possible descriptions of the kids that went online last week said that they lived in a small town, so if that's legit then it'll probably start there at least.

Since we are still giving out film tax credits, It's actually feasible they could actually film here in New Orleans.

My money is at least one of the kids will be the son/daughter or grandchild of Egon. That is how I think they will sort of honor him and keep him in memory.

Perhaps you've never heard of Detroit. A pale shadow of its former glory, with entire neighborhoods full of abandoned, decaying buildings where basic utilities no longer function, it's just about the perfect place for a ghost story. The scariest thing about DC these days (by which I mean the town at large, not the handful of federal government buildings) is its housing shortage.
