I wonder how the people commenting here feel about Darth Vader's redemption arc, or the Operative in "Serenity" supporting Mal, or all the wonderful trends of looking at stories from the bad guy's perspective, like Wicked and Maleficent.

If Georgiou was such monster then why Lorca told that she was good (in MU terms) for alien races:

According to this speach MU Georgiou was liberal and reformist who had to play by the rules of the empire. Otherwise she would have been dead a long time ago.

Its a question of nature vs nurture again, was Georgiou always going to be the way she is or was it the MU environment that decided it, the whole setup of the MU is to show that it is all about the environment (nurture) that decides who we become as the PU version made different choices and yet at the same time is so very similar.

As is so often on the internet everyone thinks they know better or would be better than everyone else in the same situation, its just halo polishing and the internet is chock full of it.

What the MU Georgiou has done is not in question, everyone is so busy virtue signalling that they don't ask or wonder about the all important "why", the show may give us the opportunity to find out who the MU Georgiou is and the same for S31.

Its the main reason I have avoided all of the silly Space Hitler conversations that have been taking over the threads since the Georgiou/S31 series was announced.

I appreciate that some don't want a show centred around Georgiou/S31 as it goes against their idealistic and unrealistic vision of what the future would be but it looks like its happening and hyperventilating over it wont make any difference at all.

Georgiou/S31 could be as cool as Black Sails in space.

Loved Black Sails it was excellent, it's up there with the still ongoing Legion/American Gods and the sadly departed Daredevil.

    Fixed that for you.

I disagree. Gul Dukhat and Kai Adami were far worse, and while neither character stuck around enough to go through a redemption arc, the writers did make an effort to show that there was more to Dukhat than just being "evil".

We have to judge people by the standards of the societies they live in and the context, as unpalatable as it sometimes is. Washington, who fought for freedom, was a Slave Owner. If he were alive today, he wouldn't be. When the Japanese surrendered at the end of World War II, Kantaro Suzuki was allowed to continue serving as Prime Minister, even though he'd been a leader in the Axis of Evil. Harry Truman dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He's arguably (I want to stress I said "arguably") a mass-murderder. FDR rounded up Japanese-Americans and put them in Internment Camps. So these leaders who we uphold as great leaders weren't exactly what I'd consider pure.

Mirror Georgiou was born into a culture where killing was how you advance. She was probably born into the elite and knew of no other way to live. If she lived in the Prime Universe, that's probably not what she would've done or how she would've behaved. Prime Georgiou is proof of that. Anything she did in the Mirror Universe is within the jurisdiction of that Universe and whatever she might've done could be classified as military actions in whatever wars she was fighting and anything she did was legal within the jurisdiction of her society and universe.

If Georgiou commits any crimes in the Federation or acts against Section 31 or Starfleet, then that changes everything. So far, she hasn't done that.

^ Adami was a religious zealot with severe mental impairments and Dukhat was a megalomaniac who was willing to wipe out all sentient life in the universe.

I'm thinking it's more likely going to be on par with 2016's Suicide Squad.

And? None of that is worse than what Georgiou did.

    Basically.

There's not even a record of anything Georgiou did in the Mirror Universe prior to Discovery's entry into the Universe and everything Georgiou did was against Terrans and other forces in that Universe. It was all external to the Federation, and external to their Universe, so the Prime Directive applies. Georgiou never waged war with the Federation.

Simple: Those customs were wrong. I don't care if everyone in her universe acted that way (and they didn't), she is still as evil as ever. There are objective standards at work here.

And how do you apply standards to those whom might not know them?

I don't mind a Section 31 series, but I gotta say - Michelle Yeoh isn't the person to lead it. She is too wooden and lacking in charisma. If they got someone like Jason Isaacs, then it could work. Maybe if there is a big regular and recurring cast with several interesting actors, it could work out anyway.
