Spider-Man: Far From Home anticipation thread

lol. We all have to move on at a certain point, otherwise it just becomes obsessive and self-destructive. Personally I gave up on comics around my early 20s. But the MCU films have been a great, entertaining medium. All good things though..

Is Mysterio still just a special effects/stage magician or have they given him actual magical abilities in this version? Another rogue Master of the Mystic Arts with a flair for the dramatic? I just wonder because this makes it look like he's using something with a little more juice than a low-rent iron man suit and some hologram projectors...

It would not surprise me at all if he were an FX/stage magician con artist who also happened to get his hands on just a piece or two of advanced alien tech.

No, we don't. Some things can become obsessive and self-destructive if you let them. Most things can be continued pretty much indefinitely as long as you are still enjoying them and take care not to let them rule your life or take precedence over the things that are more important to you. All it takes is a reasonable amount of self-discipline.

More Random thought: I hope by the end of the movie MJ at least will figure out Peter is Spider-Man. I mean first Spider-Man shows up in DC, now all over Europe just where they happen to be at any given time...I mean I get Flash not putting it together, but MJ should be switched on enough to put two-and-two together.

That would be a neat way to tie back to the Vulture plot from SMH and IIRC the Tinkerer would be still at large...So maybe.
It could just as easily be some enchanted item of course. I mean that chest plate has a somewhat ancient look to it, no?

I'm convinced she already knows. She was directly behind Peter and Ned during the Captain America video, reading a book, while Peter told Ned how he met Cap and stole his shield. The film made the point several times that when she appeared to be not paying attention was when she was the most observant, so I think she overheard that conversation and made sense of it within the context of the DC trip.

I'm guessing she'll tell Peter that she figured it out about two-thirds into Far From Home.

Nice too see our Friendless Neighbourhood Poster hated it as much as I expected

Love the trailer, looks like a fun ride with great energy and saw surprises along the way. Also the old theme had me grinning like a Cheshire cat

I bet you're fun at parties. :techman:

They invite him?

I don't use the TrekBBS as much these days, but whenever I see a new trailer for something like this I always like to come see Kirk's posts for a good laugh  It's like a caricature/spoof now

You're the worst person in the world.

All of you ... please don't go there. Keep away from the personal comments

Toomes was able to figure it out in one conversation, after all.

Yeah, she was also: -
  1. Sat directly in view of where he was cooking up his webfluid in chemistry class.
  2. Saw him getting a call from Happy Hogan on the bus trip out to DC.
  3. At the hotel, when the others were in the pool she was sat over by the wall at an angle where Peter (in costume sans mask) *may* have been in full view of her if she glanced up at the skylight. Of course she'd be the only one to notice since everyone else's attention was on each other screwing around in the pool and Peter was stood up there for a minute or two when his suit lit up (something rather attention grabbing through a skylight at night, no?)
  4. At the monument, she doesn't even react to Spider-Man appearing out of nowhere and standing three feet from her (I mean as unflappable as she is, you'd think that at least rates a double-take, yes?)
  5. Depending on how good her eyesight is, she may have also read the "go to the bathroom" message at the end since right after she says "what are you hiding", the camera cuts to over her shoulder and she has a clear view of the screen.
It's all circumstantial though and could easily be read as her secretly crushing on Peter, or just being quirky & socially awkward. So they don't *have* to follow through with this in the next movie, but the option is there.
That said, it wouldn't be the only subtle detail in the movie that coasts by without comment. One I noted during a re-watch was Tony mentioning the lady that gave Peter a churro, proving that he did indeed *listen* to Peter's reports, even paying attention the the inconsequential stuff.

I wonder if future trailers will give us an indicator as to how and why Toomes returns.

Also, MJ totally knows that Pete is Spider-Man and just isn't saying anything (Cat Grant-style).

Yup, I notice all of those as well. I was trying to remember the bus phone call and her non-reaction at the monument when I wrote that post, but my memory was failing me. I really do hope they follow up on that idea.

Film looks fantastic. Improvements to the flat cinematography from Homecoming. All the humor lands. Seems like a very character-driven movie, with a good balance of spectacle.

I probably won't be watching it in theatres, I'm done with all this after Endgame.. When one turns 30, it's time to stop with these silly films and shows. Buuuut, I can see this grossing a Billion if it is a hit internationally.
I'm 31 and I just started really getting into this stuff in the last few years. I always kinda superheroes as a kid, I watched the movies and cartoons, but just never really got that into them until the current era of movies and TV shows started with the Raimi Spider-Man and X-Men movies.

Because it's mindless escapism, and life is too short for that.
Plus, even in my 20s, I felt like I had outgrown most of this stuff. It just had nostalgic value to me because I enjoyed this stuff as a kid. Endgame is a great jumping off point.
Fair enough. I imagine there are many people who feel the same, that might be what separates them from us nerds who stick around.
Growing up where I did there was always the thought that becoming an adult meant leaving all this "kids stuff" behind. I even see it with my young nephew who thinks Spiderman is babyish already. It's difficult to find people who think otherwise where I grew up.

As for the trailer. I'm quite meh on it. :(
I was disappointed with 'Homecoming' so i'm keeping my expectations low.

I'm pushing sixty and I swung by the comic book store today, as I do every week. Alas, the new issue of ELVIRA was sold out already, but that's okay. There's another comic shop nearby.

Which reminds me, I still have to read this weeks' issues of CATWOMAN and THE INVADERS. . . . :)

What, you don't have a pull list?

I'm in my 50's and not only do I still buy comics, I go to local nerd conventions when they showcase comics legends. (BTW, Greg Cox, I believe that you will be familiar with this venue.)

I recently moved so I haven't gotten around to setting up a full pull list at our local shop yet. Clearly, my mistake.

And there's now a comic-book con at the Puyallup Fair site? Cool.

I've been a comics fan for longer than I remember and will be until the day I die.

And did I mention that I have a new BATMAN novel coming out in a couple of weeks. :)
