So What Happened to Jake After His Dad...Ascended?

That’s one of the biggest possibilities. Especially if his Grandpa started physically ailing.

Another option is he stayed on DS9 and focused on gaining experiences to write about and taking the father role for his brother, waiting for his father to return.

If he did go back to Earth, Cassidy and his brother must have gone too. No way Jake left his brother, he would have wanted to give his brother what Ben gave him.

He writes. He waits. He helps raise his baby brother. He doesn't spend a lifetime believing HE can do something to bring his dad back.

Really? I thought Jake wasn't keen on peeling potatoes... I envisioned him following his writing career. That's the only interest he ever took to in the series, so...

I always saw Jake as staying on DS9 because his dad was there, and that it was a good place to stay during the Dominion war, as a journalist. But after the war is over, and his dad has ascended? I have the feeling he'd travel. My headcanon has him pursuing stories across the quadrant. But maybe I'm reading too many of my own wishes into Jake, if I were in his place

I don't think that is unreasonable. Sadly, we knew little about what kind of a writer he was. He reported on the war, and perhaps wrote stories about being in the Maquis. Perhaps he had a little Hemingway in him?

Well his future self won the Betar Prize. Perhaps the 24th century equivalent of the Booker Prize?

According to Memory Beta, he married a Bajoran dame and had a daughter, whilst continuing his career as a reporter / writer.

Cassiday would want to leave.

The Bojorans wouldn't let her leave with the space Jesus child.

Federation Membership obstructed permanently.

Oh, and she married Jake.

I imagine he stays on DS9 and takes the occasional trip back to Earth. I don't think he'd ever reach the same heights as he did in that alternate Sisko-less timeline for some reason though.

Didn't Benjamin own some property on Bajor? Didn't he intend to build a home there? He had that model of his would-be house sitting on a table in his DS9 quarters.

I don't think Jake would want to be an absentee landlord. He probably stuck around Bajor, at least for a while initially.

As far as his writing, Jake probably did a lot of investigative reporting work about Bajoran mysticism and their belief in the Prophets, in order to get some answers or some closure about what happened to his dad. I imagine Jake eventually wrote about his findings.

I got a feeling Jake might have developed a closer friendship with Kira. Kira would be helpful in his investigation of the Prophets. Also, Kira was the one comforting Jake at the very end of the finale.

Jake would likely write reports for the Federation News Service. About the reconstruction efforts on Cardassia for instance. Or the election of the new Kai.

He would certainly miss his Dad, try to find him. Kira could be the one to comfort him. Finding luck in love might help him overcome his grief. Of course I've read the DS9 Relaunch. But they show just one of many possible directions the events could take.

Jake's pain at the loss of his dad turns to alcoholism and he eventually gets fired from the Federation News Service and the Pembleton School revokes his scholorship. With no job and his best friend Nog getting promoted and moving away from DS9 he gives up and starts writing seedy Holographic porn adventures for Quark. Works out okay for awhile until he one day he looks in the mirror and doesn't recognize the man he see's in it.

So he tells Quark he is leaving and he heads out to explore space and find new stories to write about. While out their though he runs into a Borg Cube and is assimilated. Now millions of years pass and while Jake's body has long died his memories have remained intact until one day the Borg cube malifunctions and his memories are downloaded into a new body but with his personality intact.

He escapes the cube and unaware of what to do he goes to the only place he knows that well and that is to return to Bajor. When he gets there Bajor is gone. It exploded centuries ago. But then the wormhole opens up and his dad Ben Sisko appears and they after millions of years are finally reunited and thus Sisko's promise to someday return is also carried out. Seems The Bajoran people are now all prophets that live in the Celestrial Temple. Jake is welcome to join them and together he and his dad and also all the DS9 characters we know including Cassidy and his other child are reunited where they will live happily ever after for all time.

He could go to the Pennington School with a writing fellowship with such a career following.
I wonder how that would work. The purpose of such a fellowship is to provide financial support to a graduate student. But this would be unnecessary in a post-scarcity future without money.

Depending how long this school exists, maybe the fellowships are a relict from the past. Fellowships seem to be unnecessary in the future. I guess students still have to pass entrance tests, though.
