So this is it then?

I just read articles online from various sources.

...:sigh:

So, that's it? After Academy and Strange New Worlds end, no new Trek? Another hiatus for the franchise?

Even with its 60th Anniversary on the horizon?!

I just got back into Trek four years ago and now this?

I'm appalled, upset, and melancholy about the whole thing. I secretly hoped for a spin off sequel continuation of Lower Decks, and I didn't want SNW to be cancelled.

I swear, I hate business mergers. Because stuff like this always happens with corporate change, and directions that are questionable in the long run. Franchises suffer, change due to "age demographics".

And for what?...

If anyone can help this fan with the dark cloud looming overhead, offer some input or sage advice that everything will be ok or something will come along. I welcome it.

Hey, look — periodically, it happens. But if it does, it’s likely to come back eventually after awhile; so far, it always has. And you know, even if it doesn’t, those stories are always still there for you to go back and re-experience.

I doubt they'll hiatus for very long.

No more "experimental" Trek in the near future (Read: No Star Trek: United. God, the thing sounds like a soccer/football team. )

Star Trek was cancelled in 1969, 2005 and now 2026 (although we'll probably see the last seasons in '27, unless they Batgirl it). Star Trek will be back.

Perhaps try the novels and comics, there are more of them than TV episodes. Or fan films like Of Gods and Men and Star Trek Continues. Or the infinite fanfiction out there. Or watch The Orville, if you never saw that.

2017-2027 is gonna be a decade-long run for streaming Trek and a couple hundred more episodes added to the canon. That's not half bad (even though, like Trek as a whole, the episodes were probably about half bad:lol:)

I love Prodigy and Lower Decks. I'm okay with the franchise taking a break. After nearly ten years, it is time for some new creative blood.

A lesser man would AI an appropriate logo to go with this. Not I, though.

Since you asked :D ;) ...

ETA: Correcting it for the footie fans on the board.

Announcer: "Tonight's matchup is Star Trek: United versus Naboo City!"

Since Star Trek: United is playing at home, there's gagh, leola root soup, and Romulan ale available at the concession stand. ;)

Trek's had fallow periods before.

1969-73
1974- 79
2005-2009

i didn't expect the current era to be over so fast, but it's certainly looking that way, with all the sets being torn down, and nothing new being greenlit.

On the bright side, it's not like the old stuff is going anywhere . We have a huge amount of shows and movies in this franchise to watch.

If Trek goes on another break, i guess i'll just watch the last 60 years of content until something new comes out. I know trek will be back in some form eventually

It's fine. Star Trek needs a breather. As much as I love SNW, it relies heavily on the magic of TOS. SFA is ok, but the target audience is not into it. And that's where they went wrong.
LDS was amazing, but niche compared to 'real life' Star Trek. I haven't seen Prodigy so I can't comment on that.

Picard and SNW's biggest mistakes were relying on callbacks. And even though I am quite fine with myself (I loved Picard S3, warts and all) it's like eating the perfect lasagne everyday. After a while it gets repetitive. And it's not just Star Trek, it's seen in all franchises. People are tired of it, they want more original stuff. Look at movies like Sinners, Project Hail Mary, things like that. People love it because its new and fresh.

So yeah, Star Trek needs to take a breather for about five years or so and come back with something new.
NOT a reboot. Not a Year One. Not Legacy. Established canon is just fine, just NOT a new Enterprise running into Klingons, Romulans and Borg and call backs to previous shows and movies in every episode.

I did not like Picard S3.

You don't always get the Dream Team. Often, you have to work with the eighth, ninth, or tenth-string people (or whoever else is available).

It would've been much more interesting to see Picard save the galaxy with the S1-S2 cast.
