There was definitely tension between themAt one fan fiction, which I read for a very long time ago it ended as NC-17 story without warning. Do you mean this kind of ending?![]()
Well considering they were going against a species that could send a probe to kill millions and not even get detected. Also considering how good the xindi were at fighting, they definitely needed the muscleI didn't like the MACOs, no
Unnecessary
But in a way wouldn’t that put them below starfleet. The head of the marine division would have to answer to a “navy” man, a man who probably knows nothing about ground operations.

The other incarnation of trek didn’t need macos because they were dealing with the federation starfleet not earth starfleet. Fed starfleet is much more powerful on its own. Earth starfleet is pretty weak considering their pride of of the fleet could at times barely defend itself as. And do you really think reeds men could do it on there own. Enterprise is a pretty small ship. Only 83 people to assign to a department and I doubt many were assigned to security or that the crew was cross trained very well.No other incarnation of Trek needed an obvious military extension did they ?
The only REAL time the MACOs made a difference was on the Trellium B mining planet
Every other time they were used, they were in conjunction with Reed and his security were they not ?
Always looked like a joint operation to me.
The boarding of the weapon. 3 MACOS went along and no ship security went with them reed may have went with them but that’s probably only because major Hayes was dead.No other incarnation of Trek needed an obvious military extension did they ?

No need to run I’m not in the starfleet is not a military camp. But United earth starfleet is not a military. They are just too weak.So is Starfleet.
*runs*
Yeah he did. Stupid slow transporter. The main guy had the same surname as me so I loved them. Had a pretty gruesome death though.
But United earth starfleet is not a military. They are just too weak.
Yeah but the fact is that admiral Forrest said if captain archer was ok with the military being on board. Also the fact that captain archer at the beginning seem to have very little combat experience. Even scientific captains like Janeway and Picard had combat experience and competent in that area. Captain archer seem to have the combat experience of oberth class science ship. Now that can be because earth starfleet is young, but if earth starfleet had a defense role then they wouldn’t let the pride of starfleet be captain by a man naive to say in broken bow that he hopes it was the last time some one took a shot at them. Now hat could be hopefully thinking but I believe he meant it. But over time captain archer got better in the combat department.Just a young organization. Takes time to build up sufficient forces.
Indeed, I do remember reading that Gene once suggested that the Enterprise (in TOS) carried a platoon of Starfleet Marines, we just never got the chance to meet them.

Usually I’m the one that says let’s agree to disagree lol. Didn’t mean to come off as a know it all. And no the macos did not have second in command. Makes sense enterprise is a little smallGabriel, I'm just going to say that I'll agree to disagree with you
Yes, the MACOs went to destroy the weapon, but under Reeds command because Reed was the senior security guy.
Did the MACOs not have a second in command ?
If they did, then why does he or she not step into Hayes shoes automatically ?
As far as I remember, Reed picked three soldiers from about eight volunteers and they went on the mission.
And also, Enterprise's security seemed to do ok whenever required, MACO backing or not.
I leave myself wide open on here when putting points across because all my viewpoints are made from memory only, with the best intentions, I don't study every infinite detail and foible of Trek so indefinitely I'm in discussion with people who clearly know more than I do.
My opinion was that MACOs were an addition to the series that wasn't needed, your opinion is clearly that they were.
