News Georgiou Section 31 Series officially announced:

I am one of the few who do not object to Section 31 as a concept or idea with the Star Trek world, despite the supposed "utopian" framing of Star Trek. We have seen a fair share of corrupt Starfleet officers engage in conspiracies and underhanded tactics off the record. So, in concept, it makes a kind of sense even if it is unsettling.

However, I really don't see how you get a show out of this. It sounds either very dull to me.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I love Michelle Yeoh. I love her character in Discovery, I think she'll take her Star Trek series in a very different and most likely, fun direction.
I'm only worried that we are heading into overflow here the way Disney did with Star Wars. We'll have 3 series and another 2(?) animated ones going on around the same time.

„Star Trek: Discovery actor Michelle Yeoh is getting her own spin-off series, centered around the former Terran Empire leader’s adventures as part of Starfleet’s covert-ops group, Section 31.”

Intriguing. I'm maybe not quite as excited for this one as much as Picard Show, but still. I loved Michelle Yeoh on Discovery, so I'm glad she's having a shot at her own thing. Mirror Georgiou was a very interesting character, one filled with potential.

I loved Section 31 on DS9, but I was already beginning to think that maybe they'd gone to that particular well a few too many times? I'll wait and see though.

My main concern is that although MU Georgiou is fun, and Yeoh is a great actor, Trek fans won't be down with such an unsympathetic protagonist. IMHO the actions she took in Season 1 make it hard to even swallow her as an antihero. You'd need to pair her up with a "straight man" who served as the conscience of the audience or something. Otherwise, have her undergo some sort of redemption arc. Female antihero is an infrequently done trope however, I must say.

I think Trek fans will be most upset with how much of the dark underbelly of the Federation we will see though. I mean, the series will almost literally have to be constructed based upon previously impossible things in Trek canon having unofficial Starfleet sanction. Hopefully she mostly sticks to foreign operations, rather than doing much domestically. I really don't think people want to see a series where Georgiou is on Earth extorting, bribing and blackmailing minor government functionaries on the orders of superiors for example.

Maybe this will inherit the bastard stepchild mantle that DS9 bore during it's run?

Also if Star Trek fans don't want to watch it, there'll be a different series to attract them. We're being 'spoilt 'as CBS All Access is going all out to attract subscribers - they're going full Star Wars and doing a bit of everything.

I am not sure, if I will even bother to check it out. Georgiou shouldn't be allowed to run around free and I absolutely hate Section 31 and all the conspiracies involving them. They represent the opposite to me of what Star Trek should be. It should be a series about a positive future and not concentrate on mass murdering assholes doing dark immoral things, which likely will be presented as necessary with the implication that a positive future is impossible to achieve. All the darkness will be still there, just better hidden. Nothing positive about this.

Yeah. I'm interested on it. There will be Star Trek to all tastes.
Good writters team.
Sounds interesting.

You know, back when all the new Trek shows were first rumored I thought the Starfleet Academy series was the worst idea they could come up with. I can't believe I'd actually rather have that. Speaking of which, has it been shelved? We've had several series not on that list be announced but Starfleet Academy and Khan are still nowhere to be seen.

I am all for this turn of events. I loved Emperor Georgiou. I am excited to see what Section 31 brings to the table. The recent interviews given by Kurtzman have me believing that he truly cares about Star Trek and the messages it sends out during the times we are in today. I am sure we will see a antihero show that ends up with her slowly turning around to the ideals of the Federation.
