I just wanted to remind everyone that The Good Place is back tonight. I haven't decided yet if I want to watch this and Brooklyn Nine-Nine or The Orville.

I finally started watching this show and binged the whole thing earlier this week. I can't believe I only just started watching this show sooner. It's so awesome.

I'm recording Orville and Good Place tonight because the Sharks are playing. Might see Good Place after that and Orville tomorrow.

For me Schur beats MacFarlane every time. But I'll catch Orville in the morning. And it's not just Good Place, it's DOUBLE Schur!

He works on Brooklyn Nine-Nine too?
Luckily for me all three shows are on Hulu, so whichever I decide on, I'll just watch the other(s) there on Friday. I'm leaning more towards The Orville right now, just because I've been in a space sci-fi mood lately.

    Interdimensional hole of pancakes!

I love that insight about how well intentioned actions have negative side effects because the world is complicated. That speaks directly to a modern audience too.

I go to bed at 8:00. I'm recording them all.

"We're four Oreos away from heaven!"

Of course, the Good Place is populated with overly-bureaucratic committees who are far more concerned about correct procedures and making sure things are done right than actually doing what the committees are formed to do.

Yeah, that was a great touch and was far more subtle than Jason's "what kind of messed up place would turn away refugees?" comment (even though I was amused by it nonetheless).

    Also, Nicole Byer is awesome!

    When was the committee from?

The oldest of those people might have been cavepeople originally.

They have evolved lockstep with the people of Earth.

How odd, that they were never stuck in their ways as survivors of the middle ages.

Wasn’t really a fan of this episode. I think it suffered from the whole cliffhanger thing, where they end on such a high note that the next episode was a let down. Also it was a little more soapy for my taste rather than funny.

The episode itself felt like a filler until we get to the next cliffhanger but it had some cute moments. Nicole Byer was the best part.

I do wonder: will our characters eventually decide they don't want to live in the Good Place? I feel like the show might be setting up a situation where the characters realize the real Good Place is actually boring and they don't want to live there forever. We kinda got a glimpse of that in this episode. We saw that the Good Place is populated by overly enthusiastic, "never bend the rules" bureaucrats who will take forever to do anything. I can see our characters not finding that appealing at all. Eleanor will certainly hate that. Of course, if they do reject the Good Place, they won't want to go to the Bad Place either. Maybe our characters will ultimately go to a Medium Place that is more suited for them?

I did appreciate the revelation that the Bad Place is not hacking the points system but that people are not earning good points anymore because of how complex the world has become and how even good actions are tainted by bad ones. That's a good commentary on the modern world. It's issue now like how electric cars are greener but the electricity that powers them still often comes from non-green sources.

I've been wondering the same thing at least during this season and perhaps during the second as well. That especially seems likely considering the establishment of Mindy St. Claire's situation.

The show's endgame is probably for them to create their own good place that will let everyone in.

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet but is anyone else listening to the The Good Place podcast hosted by Marc Evan Jackson? Now that I've caught up on the series, I've started listening to it and it's full of great behind-the-scenes insights and analyses of each episode with regular guests from the show itself. It's very much in vein of The West Wing Weekly.

Are we sure the committee were mortal originally? Are the accountants? Maybe the committee are just more cosmic beings that help run the system. We might not have met any actual good place people yet.

Fair enough. You are probably right. Let me rephrase: if the Good Place is run by "overly enthusiastic, "never bend the rules" bureaucrats who will take forever to do anything", as it seems to be, that does not bode well for characters like Eleanor enjoying the Good Place.

I am. Other then the feeling of too much patting each other on the back, it's an enjoyable listen after each episode.

I listened over the summer as they were catching up so they could do season 3 live. And I will listen to anything Marc Evan Jackson does. Any time. Sparks Nevada is genius.

A bit slow, but I enjoyed that episode. There were some good character moments for the entire cast.

A little disappointed we didn't get to see the actual Good Place, but I still enjoyed the episode.
The committee and the mail lady were hilarious.
The whole thing with good actions still connecting to bad consequences is a lot more interesting than the Bad Place fixing the point system.
I loved all the different stuff that everybody was smelling.
