Well I guess the novelverse will have to fill the gap, look at TOS all those books add up to more than a five year mission

I've been working on a Star Trek 4 fan trailer off and on for a year now. I guess the finished product will be bitter sweet at that point. Heh.
It was a good run, but had nowhere to go but down. As others have mentioned, the gap between ST'09 and STiD basically killed enthusiasm for the franchise. And the lackluster Beyond following AGAIN four years later was the nail in the coffin.
That being said, I'm delighted that Trek is once more living, breathing, and growing on our TV boxes. Coupled with the news that the Picard series will indeed branch off events both from TNG and from ST'09 allows the latter to live on...

I dunno, I liked seeing how the characters grew by BEYOND. What else would you want them to do, continue just having Kirk act like an insubordinate dudebro that insults Spock for doing what was expected of any starfleet officer?
I can't honestly say I'm upset about this. At least it ended before it had a chance to really go off the rails - or before it had to deal with Anton's absence.
One of my wishes for 2019 was positive news about a new Trek film. This doesn't give me much confidence. It's amazing the flip flop the Franchise has gone through this decade. We started with the Films being the only thing Trek fans had to look forward to, and now we end with Trek on TV the only thing we have to look forward to. It has been done before, having Trek in the cinema and on TV at the same time. It was good times. I hope there will be a new Trek film again in my life time but I do wonder why Paramount cannot sell it's portions of the franchise back to CBS. They want the Cash cow, I understand that, but right now it's more of a dog than a cow. They aren't doing anything with it.
Why can't we have both though? They did it before, and it was just really cool how Star Trek had it's own cinematic universe before anyone even thought of the idea. You can have Trek on TV and Trek in the theaters, yet because it's split that doesn't seem likely to happen.
True. I'd take both but if I have to choose then I'll take the TV shows. The Kelvin movies had the TOS characters so it's kinda sad that's gone for now but it does free those characters up for the TV shows either as regulars or guests. Kelvin TOS spin off?
I'm just curious, is "Kelvin" trademarked by Paramount, so CBS cannot use it at all? I mean could CBS have a show in the Kelvin universe with a new cast if they wanted to? With the news of CBS doing something in the Kelvin universe for STO, I'm a little confused how that works.
CBS owns all of Trek, they merely licensed it to Paramount to make movies. The "Kelvin" and "Prime" labels were just made to differentiate the two timelines.
So if they wanted to, CBS can keep the Kelvin universe going. That's good news.
CBS owns Trek but the TV and Movie IPS are under different branches. Different branches that compete against one another. Hence the lack of synergy between the brand, licensing and merchandising issues as well.
Given what we've heard of the Picard series, it would seem it's not all that difficult to reconcile the two timelines. The separation of timelines was just done so Paramount and CBS wouldn't step on each other's toes.

Assuming they have the go from CBS, Paramount will turn this around and have a Trek movie out by 2022. Can't tell you what it'll be about or who will be in it.
Disagree. For the 50th anniversary, a Shatner-Nimoy reunion would have appealed to every Trekkie across generations.

Wouldn’t for me. I didn’t even like Nimoy coming back, especially a second time. nuTrek should have stood on its own from the start.
I'm not torn up about this. I think we got three mostly solid films, that all have some re-watch value. The Kelvin films kept the Trek flame alive at a very dire time for the franchise, and for a brief moment, in 2009, made Trek cool among the masses in a way it hadn't been in about 20 years, or reaching further back, to the 1960s. As much as I had issues with Into Darkness, I can't deny it's box office success and how it tapped into a worldwide audience. Unfortunately didn't really build on that with Beyond (which wasn't a bad film, but I can't say it was a film that would be the topic around the proverbial water cooler either, and it didn't help that the commercials ruined the twist with Krall).
I don't know where else the Kelvin universe can go at this point but down. I think Into Darkness was a setback creatively, and in terms of momentum, that the Kelvinverse never recovered from. I would rather not shackle this group of actors to directionless, lackluster films while their careers are thriving. And leaving it at three, they could perhaps always revisit the Kelvin universe later on, The Motion Picture-style, after the cast is a little older.

I also would love it if CBS and Paramount worked out their issues and put Discovery in the Kelvinverse where it fits much better than the Prime universe.
