I kind of brain farted when I saw Reverend's post, but now that I remember who Gurney was, I agree he would have been a much better fit.
So I wonder how they'll handle The Baron, make up, a heavy actor, or mo-cap?

You're a bit behind, they've been working on this for quite a while now.
I thought he was about the same age as Paul, so mid/late teens, or early 20s. I'll admit, it's been a while since I read the book, so I could just be remember the characters as being younger than they actually were.

So both Feyd and Raban are in their 20s? I'll have to reread but I never imagined Raban as that young.

Rabban was 59, Feyd was 16 at the start of Dune. Both died roughly two years later.

Oh, that's very good casting indeed! Hopefully that means the Baron won't simply be a bombastic tyrant and instead have more nuance to him.

Anyone else kinda hope it doesn't get made? I just can't imagine a Dune movie being any good.

I don't want it to get made out of pure jealousy that I don't get to make it.

Otherwise, there is some trepidation of course but this is a fantastic creative team. It could be something wonderful.

Besides, this isn't a "virgin" content. It's already been made and re-made. Another version, even if it fails, won't tarnish the legacy and, like Lynchs, will undoubtedly cause an increase in interest in the source material even if the movie is horrible.

That he does. But I like to think he'll be more than just bombastic.

That's how I feel, too. Plus, I have a lot of faith in Denis Villeneuve because of Enemy, Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, and especially Arrival.

I'm wondering how they will deal with the Barons pedophilia, incestuous desires, and regular rapes. In the novel it's a way to bring even more danger to Paul, making the Barons threat to him not only of regular violence but also sexual. On film, in this day and age, it could be misinformed as the age old trope that homosexuals are dangerous pedophiles. Since it's not key to the plot of this novel (but is important in CoD) I wonder if they will drop it entirely.

Hm, that's a good point. There are a lot of moving parts to cover, even in two films, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was dropped.

I agree. Additionally, I get the impression from FH's books that he wasn't exactly progressive when it comes to homosexuality,. It would mean Alia's affair with Javid would need to be re-worked, which I suppose would be easy enough to do. Make it her decision, not the Barons.

I'm thinking they'll drop it, I'm pretty sure the other adaptations did, and I don't think they could get away with it today.

Skarsgard is great casting for Harkonen. With the team behind the scenes, and now the cast they're putting in front of it, this is starting to look like it will have a ton of potential.

It wasn't stressed as much in the novels but it was there. It's been awhile since I saw the Lynch version but I'm fairly certain there was some lascivious attention paid by the Baron to Feyd, as well as the sexual heart plug scenes. And in the mini the Baron does use his beautiful boy line a couple times. Plus the scene where Feyd tries to assassinate the Baron using one of his teenage sex slaves is included.

Definitely downplayed though in both versions.

Both the movie and the mini series seriously downplayed the Baron's sexual deviancy. I don't really think the movie really addressed it directly, while the miniseries interpreted the Baron's desire for "boys" as meaning young adults. I suspect this movie may strongly imply the Baron's gay but will avoid addressing the matter directly.

That might have something to do with the mini casting 30 year olds as "boys"
