Favorite 'Little' Moments...

In The Voyage Home, when Scotty says to the man at the Plexicorp factory "I've come millions of miles...", and McCoy corrects him "Thousands!"

 

The kicker of that scene... Scotty was actually right.

 

Plus the idea that aluminum could be transparent is actually quite funny.

 

Whoa, looks like I've been missing something for close to 35 years. I thought the joke was that Scotty was right, but was blowing their cover by saying "millions," so McCoy corrected him to say "thousands" to fit with the professor-from-Scotland backstory.

 

^ No, that is also correct.

Another favorite little moment: In "Friday's Child" when McCoy demonstrates his knowledge of Capellan culture. Like the bit where he says "What the Klingon says is unimportant and we do not hear his words" (i.e. he just called the Klingon a liar).

 

Funny, that sort of reminds me of Data in Masks who keeps saying "I do not hear you" but in that case, it means "You are so unimportant that what you're saying doesn't matter."

 

Yes! That is one of my favorite lines in one of TOS' very best teleplays. The dialogue throughout FC is top-shelf. Just about every other line is a classic, and you cited a really good one. Another one of my favorites, from Kirk, also concerning that weasel Kras: "Or let the Klingon and me fight. It . . . might amuse you." Shatner is really at the top of his game in FC, boosting the episode even further.

Oh, another great moment and sequence of outstanding dialogue, which I'll try from memory:

KIRK: There's just one thing I want.
SPOCK: The Klingon?
KIRK: One of us must get him.
SPOCK: Revenge, Captain?
KIRK: Why not.

The Series "The 100" is really bad for it as well

Much as I like Timothy Spall as an actor, Rowan Atkinson would have made a far better Wormtail in the Potterverse films.

I haven't seen any of Mrs.Who, Phase, so no idea about that! But Capaldi's era was pretty yuck too and had no redeeming qualities! I loved the old stuff from the sixties and seventies but I've never had any difficulties discerning what they're saying!

In "The Apple", Kirk et al. seem to be satisfied with the inhabitants' of the planet new status but these people had lived for millennia, doing very little work, now they're going to grow old and die in a few decades and in the meantime they'll have to work hard just to feed themselves. You really see this as an improvement? I don't.

It's improvement from being essentially slaves to some damned machine.

So instead they'll be slaves to primitives methods of growing crops. They'll work ten hours a day just to feed themselves and die of simple diseases (It'll take thousands of years to acquire a medicine to speak of) at a young age.

Yeah, that's an improvement all right...

Besides we're all slaves to machines and happy to be so.

Who among us would want to return a life without electricity or machines of any kind?

I doubt you'll find many of these.

 

As McCoy pointed out, there was complete stagnation of that society for thoysands of years. How is that healthy for any society?

And just because it took humans thousands of years to get to a certain level with technology, medicibe, etc., doesn't mean it will take tgem that long.

It is completely arrogant to think that humans should be the barometer of advancement. There are examples of species smarter than us, Vulcans being the obvious example.

And besides, we don't know for sure that those aging effects will happen suddenly. It may take decades or centuries for them to even start aging, since their bodies are already used to being that old. Sort of like how long life was a natural thing for the people on "THE OMEGA GLORY".
