Uhura didn't have red on and Balok is driving the plot.

"DAY OF THE DOVE"... that being was pulling the strings, and a vast number of the crew were stuck.

In "OBSESSION", I remember we saw 4 die, and at least one other was mentioned as killed when the cloud entered the ship, making at least 5 killed. There might be some more... I'd have to rewatch to be sure.

"And The Children Shall Lead" had two redshirts beamed into space and two abandoned on a planet.
Did they ever go back for them?

    1. There were no red shirts running the Phaser Room rather gold shirts (two officers and two techs). Spock (blue shirt) fixed his own console rather an engineering tech (red shirt). Just by shirt count, there were a lot of gold shirts in most scenes versus any other shirt colors.
    2. The Romulans were cloaked and invisible which drove most of the plot in the episode (except when they shoot).

Great guess, quite clever, but no.

I thought someone might guess this, with the 430 minus 38 crewmen stuck down in the lower decks and the alien remaining largely unseen, but they do see it later and there are tons of redshirts in the sword fight at the end and in Engineering, so no, but nice.

You are correct. I thought two were injured when it entered the No. 2 impulse vent, but one of them died, says McCoy. Poor performance on my part as I have that ep's dialogue mostly memorized by now. Nice catch. Not the answer though.

Presumably they did or called another ship for them but that's not the one I have in mind. Good guess.

Nice guess. I thought some of you brainiacs might go for S1 eps where redshirts seem to be less prominent as a whole than in S2 and S3. Not correct, though; sorry.

Ah, my second-favorite ep. Nice guess on the alien, but the whole ep revolves around Scotty, so no. (Uhura is absent, however, and there are few Operations division personnel present and almost none with lines except Scotty.) Best guess so far in a crowded field.

Is there in truth no beauty

Kollos, unseen alien, Scotty is at the dinner, and I don't know about the red shirts.

    A Taste of Armageddon?
    1. Where have all the red shirts gone? Kirk's two security men disguise themselves as Eminiar Seven security guards.
    2. An unseen alien drives much of the plot. The unseen alien(s) are on the other planet, Vendikar.
    3. Scotty gets in on the action. Since both Kirk and Spock are planet side, Scott has to deal with the real pains in the ass, both Anan and Ambassador Fox. Scott gets so pissed that he's about to destroy the planet by the end of episode. :D

Hmm, but seeing Kollos is sort of the problem of the ep, right? So no. Still, I like your . . . out of the box thinking?

:guffaw: So that's what GO 24 is all about; unwinding after a long day at the office. This is a great guess right up there with WIF. Still not the one I'm thinking of, though. There are actually two others not yet mentioned that fit (I later realized) besides the one I'm thinking of, but let's get another clue to see if we can sort this out. Awesome guesses by everyone.

Clue 4: That helmsman has some serious plot armor.

    "MUDD'S WOMEN"?

    1. Where have all the red shirts gone?
Uhura wears gold here instead of her usual red.

    2. An unseen alien drives much of the plot.
Some of the emotions that caused the women to feel as they do, and hence why they take the drug, can't be seen. Eve became beautiful because of her confidence, not the drug.

    3. Scotty gets in on the action.
Scotty is at the meeting with Mudd and the women, and he is the one trying to keep the ship powered and together while Kirk tries to get the dilithium.

    4. That helmsman has some serious plot armor.
Mudd, with his helming maneuvers for his ship, by all rights should have been killed. Except he was integral to the plot.

    1. Where have all the red shirts gone?
People are dying but none of them are redshirts. In fact, the redshirt and redskirt make it off the planet.

    2. An unseen alien drives much of the plot.
Barring a couple of very long shots, we never see the indigenous hominids. Only hear them.

    3. Scotty gets in on the action.
Scotty backs Spock at the height of Boma's insubordination. Also, the electrified plating thing.

    4. That helmsman has some serious plot armor.
Latimer was in the shuttlecraft's right hand pilot seat at the beginning and takes the spear in the back in a most contrived unrealistic way.

Geez, you guys are good, and the explanations are so fun to read. Those are both excellent guesses, neither of which had occurred to me. Sorry.

I'll wait a while to see if anyone else wants to guess before issuing Clue No. 5.

This won't kill you . . . but the stun effect is not very pleasant.

I have never questioned the wisdom of one of your posts. Until now.

Clue 5: Coordinates come with different strokes.

    Yes!!!!!!!!!

    Nice job, OK!

The redshirts disappear for parts unknown in Sickbay courtesy of Marlena, the "unknown alien scientist" in the "plundered laboratory" drives much of the plot through the stolen Tantalus Field, Sulu is protected from said field by plot armor, Scotty is involved in the epic Sickbay fight and Chekov gives the phaser barrage coordinates to Sulu by firing up some British English with the use of "stroke," which I always thought was an awesome bit of teleplay writing to convey a slightly different universe.

Until the last clue I would have accepted "Space Seed" too as I realized it could fit. And before the Scotty-action clue I could have accepted WALGMO as I think there was an argument there too.
