A couple things work in his favor: Firstly, he's managed to make himself look like the underdog in a David vs. Goliath against CBS. Their execution of the newest Star Trek franchise as something less than perfect in every way gives him wriggle room to make it seem like CBS doesn't care, like they're trying to erase True Star Trek™ and only people like Alec, and especially Alec, are going to save it. That alone gives him ridiculous influence. As asinine as AP has been about this whole affair, I do marvel at his ability to keep this befuddling perpetual motion machine rolling. I honestly never would have expected it to go on this long after the lawsuit. A true Energizer rabbit, that one.
Secondly, he seems to draw the same type of crowds that are attracted to Multi-level marketing scams. If they believe a little harder, if they work a little more, if they give a little more money, if they put everything they have in it, and most importantly they must talk it up like it's already real, then their dream of a perfect Real Star Trek™ film will come true.
