Spoilers New Picard TV Series and Litverse Continuity (may contain TV show spoilers)

Oh, yeah--the post-Nemesis litverse continuity as a whole is shot all to hell. I would be very surprised if elements of that continuity didn't appear in the Picard show, though. Very surprised, indeed.

I feel like the Rise of the Federation novels are far enough in the past that they wouldn't be effected much by the new series.

Yeah, that's true. I don't think that will be the problem with those though. I'm just not sure Pocketbooks will produce anymore because it seems they will all be trades now and I'm not sure enough people will pay $16 for an Enterprise novel. I hate saying that, but it'll probably come down to simple economics.

To be honest, I just look at Avatar as starting the whole "Star Trek" relaunch, rather than each series having its own. Never read the Genesis Wave books, but there were quite a few relaunch books that referred back to, or even carried on threads from previous novels.

I agree, Avatar was really the first book where they really acknowledged a continuation. Then Voyager and Enterprise picked up the idea. I really enjoyed the Genesis Wave books, especially the first 2 books, and would highly recommend them. They had an epic feel. They included Maltz from TSFS and Dr Leah Brahms reuniting with LaForge. The last two books (Genesis Force being sort of a coda book) weren't quite as good. The main story was finished in book 2 but the consequences and some lingering storylines were carried forward in book 3 and Genesis Force. And characters and events from those books were carried forward in future books. I remember seeing references to Genesis Wave in the A Time To....books and lingering references in some later books as well (I think the last reference was "Indistinguishable from Magic" when LaForge again met up with Dr Brams.)

It was claimed to be so, but in a way that should have been obvious as a misdirection. The films and anything out of George Lucas's mouth (like jokes he made on Conan O'Brien!) were G-canon, the tv shows were T-canon, most books, comics, and stuff were C-canon, and so on. But the very fact that C-canon could be ignored by G- and T-canon indicated it wasn't really "canon" in any meaningful sense.

I might have been mad about the EU being shitcanned if the EU itself hadn't become shit in its later days. I'll happily take the Sequel Trilogy over anything post-New Jedi Order.

Agreed about the quality of SW EU in the later years but there were some intriguing stories that were advertised, like the Sword of the Jedi series.

Also, I've not been impressed by the quality of writing in the post-Disney fiction. I found the Aftermath trilogy to be almost unreadable and Heir to the Jedi may have been the works SW I've ever read. Since Disney is now making new movies, the fiction deals with sidestories and non-main characters that are just not that interesting. At least with a Trek reboot we will still get to read about our favorite characters!

Until the inevitable Romulan War series
I really don't think its inevitable.

You should read "Tarkin" the two Thrawn novels and "Lords of the Sith" then.

The author of Aftermath is not a great writer, and those novels should not be used to pre-judge the rest.

I really need to check out Heir to Jedi, I loved Kevin Hearn's first Iron Druid book and one of the series novellas, and I it find hard to the guy who wrote those also wrote something as bad as I've seen people say Heir to the Jedi is. The Iron Druid stories are from 2011 and '13, so maybe his writing skills degraded a lot in that time?

I'm still remaining optimistic that there will be a way to continue the Relaunches even after the Picard series starts. We still don't know enough about to know what it's going to mean for the books.

I'm currently finishing up my last books from the SWEU. I won't even start any of the new books until I complete it. Only thing left for me is finished the Young Jedi books and both Legacy comic series. At that point, I'll have read 99% of the original canon before it got nuked. Can't believe it's taken this long!

It's obvious the new Picard series is going to wipe out the interconnected Treklit canon that started in 2001 with DS9's Avatar.

Who will you be sorry to see go? Who are you glad to see wiped out and blown into dust?

Sorry to see go:
New deep space nine?

Happy to see go:
T'Ryssa Pixie Dream Girl Chen
President Nan "I'm so witty and hip" Bacco
The plot fix aliens who wiped out the Borg and made Erika Hernandez a god
Vedek Kira
Section 31's destruction.
Gell "I'm just as hip and witty as Bacco" Kamenor
Obsession with showing me the Tzenkethi all of the time. (No one cares about them Una)
the Breen.. oh god David Mack, the Breen nonsense, wipe it out all of it. Wolf snouts and gas beings all of it!

I'd been keeping up with the new books but I got bogged down in "The Crimson Shadow". Never finished it and haven't read anything after that. Don't feel the pressure catch up now.

I'd like to see the elements from the post-finale writers room discussion in the DS9 documentary be adapted in some way.

I've liked the novels for many, many years but with Trek back on screen I think the current crop has had their day.

It's really not obvious at all. We really don't know enough about it right now to to say for sure what it will do to Trek Lit. We do know it takes place several years past where the books are now, so there is a pretty good chance that the books will be able to change things as they go to fit in with the Picard show.

Meh, I could take it or leave it. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't miss if it it does go away.

I would hate to lose these two, they are two of my favorite characters.

Definitely would miss Destiny and the Caeliar.
Vedek Kira
I think this is the one point I agree with you on.
Section 31's destruction.

Kamemor is awesome.

I love the Trek Lit Breen, the way David Mack worked in all of the different theories we heard on DS9 was brilliant.

Things I would miss:
Dax as Captain of the Aventine
The Memory Omega version of the Mirror Universe
Voyager and the Full Circle fleet back in the Delta Quadrant
New Data
The Vanguard story and characters
The Typhon Pact

I don't have any problems with the new Picard show and the current Lit adventures existing both at the same time. The new show wouldn't wipe out any existing story lines. At least not for me.

That's not how it works.

The-ins are obligated to follow on screen continuity. Obviously your books won't evaporate away, but they will come to an end.

Maybe. I will wait and see what happens next year with the new show and the novelverse.
