I work in HR, and many thousands of names have crossed my desk over the years. There are some really ridiculous names out there. Several people with the same first and last name too, e.g. Heather Heather. But to be honest, I love the crazy names because they are so easy to remember and make differentiating between people much simpler. I hate it when someone calls asking about James Smith or David Thomas, as if there's only one. Yeah, we have 10 of those, you'll have to be more specific. The worst is when two or more people have the same first and last names and no middle name or initial. Their documents end up filed together and then I end up sorting it all out years later.
I was in high school when the 'It's Pat' sketch became popular on SNL, and my name is Patrick, so I got a lot of people saying "It's Paaaaaaaaat!" in a nasally voice for several years.
My given name is Wesley. I'm surprised I never received any Wesley Crusher jokes. Then again I was born in 1991 and my peers probably didn't watch TNG. Thankfully.
My fathers name is Adolf, because his father, grandfather and great grandfather were named Adolf. I am glad he broke with the tradition
I guess that's the most important thing. On the other hand. In Hollywood you have the chance to pick an alias if you hate your name.....
It sucks to have a name associated with so much evil, but I think she focus on the powerful goddess she's named after, who owned the name first!
the vice-principle of my middle school was named Harold Richard Brown, and went by "Harry". So of course, we stupid tweens always joked that on a legal document, his name would be Brown, Harry Dick... God we were so immature!
I believe that the name on his birth certificate was Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones, so he didn’t really change his name, he just reverted back to the name on his BC. Dweezil Zappa’s BC name was Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa because the hospital refused to register his name as Dweezil. His parents called him Dweezil and when Dweezil found out about his birth name when he was still a child he insisted that his name be legally changed to Dweezil.
That was the example I was referring to in my OP...... Oh Mighty Isis and she even had comic books and stuff.
My mother-in-law worked for a Catholic Hospital. One of the nuns told her that a new mother wanted to name her new daughter a lovely name that she heard during her baby's delivery. She wanted to name her daughter "Placenta" because it sounded so pretty. The nun said no. She made her pick another name. So that is one way that a hospital refuses.
A great great great grandfather of mine named two of his many sons Carl Augustus Rudolphus Hartaffel Demuth and Gottfried Ottfried Obadja Eckert Demuth. My ancestor's mother was the daughter of Rudolphus Hartaffle and Sarah (nee Eckert), which explains a few of those names. James Stephen "Big Jim" Hogg (1851-1906) was a Texas lawyer, attorney general (1887-1891), & governor (1891-1895). His children included Ima (1882-1975), called "the first lady of Texas", who was named after a character in The Fate of Marvin written by Jim's brother Thomas Hogg (1842-1880). But Ima Hogg's sister Ura Hogg is purely imaginary. Ima Hogg never married, although she may have been tempted to do so to change her surname. I like to imagine that one reason she never married was that her suitors were Mr. Butcher, Mr. Devil, Mr. Crook, Mr. Hoar, etc. As for girls named Isis, I suggest that maybe their parents should host parties for their friends showing episodes of the TV series Isis (1975-1976) and the Star Trek episode "Assignment Earth". And maybe when the daughter has to write something for school suggest that she does a report about ancient Egyptian religion including the goddess Isis. And possibly the parents of a girl named Isis Jones might change her name to Ima Smart Intelligent Sister Jones, and then explain when necessary that Isis Jones is actually I.S.I.S. Jones, and give the individual names. And if the evil ISIS organization is defeated soon the girl can change her name back to Isis Jones as an adult. Or maybe change the name of a girl named Isis to I.S.I.S. standing for Innocencia Saptientia Intelligencia Sympathica or I.S.I.S standing for Imperatrix Shahbanu Infanta Sebastokratorissa https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/imperatrix https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahbanu https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infante https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastokrator
