Oh damn Enterprise has gone ahead of Voyager in that poll, last I checked it was behind Voyager.

He did a best trek series last week, Discovery got more votes than Voyager and Enterprise. Not by much.

Interesting that DS9 is edging ahead of TNG. Once upon a time, a poll like this would've had TNG in the clear lead. That speaks to the number of people who are re-discovering DS9 or giving it another chance.

Hopefully, one day in the future, people who have written off "STD" will give DSC another chance.

I hadn't heard his dog had passed away. That was a super cute animal that was supposedly very popular on the set.
So very sad....
I really hate those end-times with beloved pets.

We've got one that will be 16 years old in February.
Most days he's pretty hearty and he's functioning fairly well for a '112 year old', but it's only a matter of time now.
He'll always be remembered lovingly and have a special place in our hearts.
:(

According to the John Eaves' Art Book, the son of Pilot Joe Walker, which the Walker-Class is named after, wrote in saying he appreciated that they named a ship after his father.

So, I'm 4 episodes into my re-watch, and I can say that this time through, being more objective, that the dialogue in the 2 prologue episodes can be painful at times. Not "Attack of the Clones" painful, but pretty clunky. The opening discussion between Burnham and Georgeau is really awful. It's amazing that the least naturalistic and least realistic dialogue, following 5 mins of subtitled Klingon garbledeegook is what they chose to open the series with.

And, on that point, all the Klingon monologues are also extremely painful to endure in those two episodes as well. It's not a wonder that this didn't grab some people who never watched beyond this point.

The first two episodes after the prologue (Context and Butcher's Knife) are such a drastic improvement in terms of watchability. That's more the DSC I remember loving.

Another observation is that Georgeau was a great Star Trek Captain. That's what I loved most about the prologue episodes. I wish they had found more ways to keep that character visible through the course of the season. I actually believed we'd be seeing more flashbacks (like you see at the beginning of Binary Stars) showing her relationship with Burnham and how Burnham evolved. It would have been easy to film all that with Michelle Yeoh up front, so as to not enfringe on her schedule. It would also have been an excellent way to get the episodes closer to an hour length on average. If you (rightfully) wanted to keep Yeoh involved, this would have probably been better than the option they went with. It also would have been a perfect way to keep the thread of Burnham's guilt and redemption very much alive and more emotional.

Hmmm. I'm not sure how they could interweave flashbacks with Georgiou into the first half of the season and have it feel natural. Except maybe showing how Georgiou thought Burnham would go far in Starfleet and then we see Burnham as a Specialist who everyone treats as a Nobody.

But once they're in the Mirror Universe, and afterwards, I could see it more easily: contrasting Prime Georgiou to Mirror Georgiou and the differences between how Burnham and Saru interacted with them.

If the flashbacks tied to emotional plot points and showed backstory that gave insight or different angles on why Burnham behaves a certain way, or makes certain choices, I think it could have been very powerful. Maybe, as one example, you could see Burnham's passion for mentoring Tilly through flashbacks that show just how much Michael needed and grew from the mentoring Georgeau provided.

Watching the first episode again, I think they should have made the Europa a Constitution Class ship. Would have made that scene more impactful.

The opening dialogue between Georgiou and Burnham was a classic case of writer's failing to understand "show not tell." Georgiou tells Burnham things she already knows, for no within-universe reason. Instead, the dialogue is simply there to act as an infodump for us as the viewers. Basically, the writers (of that episode at least) were not bright enough to figure out how to get across what was needed to be said about Burnham's character through on-screen action and naturalistic dialogue.

Was it ever actually explained what rammed the ship? The Ship of the Dead was supposed to have the only cloak as of that time, but it was clearly something else entirely that rammed into them.

Something called a Klingon Cleave Ship.

It's one of the upcoming models from Eaglemoss too...

Kinda-sorta looks like a Beluga Whale in your pic.
Not so much in this one.

Looks more like a Toucan's Beak here or a very long-nosed Mandrill...

On episode 4, I find it funny that they took the telescope of the Shenzhou but didn’t scuttle the ship. Seems poor form of Starfleeet to not send a few ships in and destroy anything that could be dangerous in the Disco-Klingons got hold of it.

The fact that TOS is a distant third shows that the poll is a joke (or the respondents are). And why are TNG & their movies grouped together, and TOS are not?

I would pick TNG over TOS (by a whisker) for best show. But if you throw the movies in, TOS wins handily. And TOS1 is easily the best season.

DS9 third easily. And frankly closer to the top 2 than VOY/ENT are to DS9. By a large margin.

Would gave had VOY 4th, but did a rewatch before DSC1 and have to say, I may lean ENT. Or at least if you cut out TATV, that was awful. VOY had higher highs but also lower (and more frequent) lows (hey Harry, wanna visit the holodeck?). The infinite shuttle/reset thing also bugs me.

Too early to rank DSC, only 13/14 episodes. TAS last.

1) TNG
2) TOS
-----small gap----
3) DS9
-----large gap
4) ENT
5) VOY

Freaking Klingons! A Reaper ship! I'm with Kirk on this one. They are animals. Let them die.

In this series they represent Death itself. There's precious little honor to go around. All the noblest acts belong to L'Rell, and even she kills off Voq's Klingon self to serve the greater good. She's also quite willing to destroy the entire race unless it unifies under her wisdom. Yikes!
