Netflix greenlights new "Lost in Space"

Yeah, I'd take the colony setting over random alien or human of the week stories like we got in the original.

A gut feeling I had in season 1 was that maybe their destination was not all it's cracked up to be and something shady was going on.

Lost in Space was not the worst series of the year. In fact, it was actually one of my favorite series of the year. It was a series that didn't have a distopian future or a ton of violence. It was a family show, which I found really refreshing given the time we live in now. Also, Dr. Smith was someone you absolutely despised, but doesn't that give the actress credit for the portrayal. It's kind of like Kai Winn in DS9.

Definitely. If an actress or actor playing a baddy makes you want to hate the character they're doing their job. It's their job to convince you this fictional character can't be trusted or liked.

Parker Posey is brilliant

I really enjoyed this show. Got to watch it with my family as my wife and kids really got into it--we watched it over a week. Family time every night.

She's been one of the best parts of the show. The way she constantly manipulates everyone is pretty impressive.
One other thing I forgot to mention is how much the names referring back to the original series are cracking me up.
Has anybody seen if there's any kind of official, or semi-official names used to differentiate the two series? Like Star Trek: The Original Series or Classic Doctor Who.

I'm especially interested what that's going to be like in season 2 where she's out in the open now.

I love the original and new Lost in Space's- yes, there are occasional "bad episodes", but Star Trek has those too...

I usually see the original series called "Lost in Space" or "LIS", and the new one called "the new series" or "the reboot"- but I believe the "official" name for the original is "Lost in Space: The Classic Series" or "Irwin Allen's Lost in Space".

To be truthfully honest I just can't bring myself to watch the old series anymore, bar a handful of episodes which I like but that's more a sentimental thing but I tried to watch the whole series in March and just couldn't.

I've long found the second season of LIS to be nigh-unwatchable, and the third season is only intermittently better. It's really only the first season that I like. After that it's almost a totally different show.

Season 1 I can tolerate too, even the dodgy science I let slip by. Season 2 and 3 just isn't watchable but for a few episodes.

Dodgy science has long been the norm for TV and film science fiction; if I couldn't let it slide, I couldn't watch much of anything. It always surprises me when people talk about a single show's bad science as if it were an exception. It's competent science that's the exception, though marginally less so in recent years.
