3D interiors in Blender

I originally was gonna have the Captain's chair inside the pit it it's usual position, but the Captain gets lost in there, plus they can't clearly see the viewscreen or the officers outside the pit when seated so low at the back of the bridge.

I've experimented with quite a lot of alcoves and extensions on the back, but I just didn't like how they looked, so in the end I just modified the existing wall to have no consoles, so that the captain can essentially be as close to the wall as possible (though still leaving room for the chair to swivel). The top part isn't done yet, it's just a mockup, but given the ship's role I imagined a big 3D Starfleet logo like the one we saw in TUC wouldn't look bad there. If the captain (or an admiral who's using this ship as their mobile command center) has to address other ships, they'll do it with a Starfleet logo behind them. Thoughts?

On the Belknap side, I've added a similar carpet to the one that was already there on the bottom level, while also tweaking the okudagrams to have traditional 'blue-green-teal' colors. I have an idea to add more lights and a unique twist to the wall consoles, but I haven't done it yet.

And on a completely separate note, Rob Bryan aka Scragnog from the team who previously did Stage 9 has been importing some of my works to Unreal. These are just personal projects to iron out his skills and to see what's possible with the engine, they aren't even playable and have no intention of ever being so (not to mention they are not and will never be released in any way).

I almost feel like the area behind/around the captain's chair on the Valkyrie is too dark and bland now. I know you want it to fit in with the Constellation and Belknap, but maybe you can take it in a different direction? If this is supposed to be both a bridge and the flight ops center for shuttles and/or fighter craft, maybe take it a bit more in the direction of DS9's Ops or the CIC from nuBSG.

The chair put back there just feels weird without some kind of support or structure to help give it some importance. Like... I'm expecting a raised platform, or something blocking off the underlighting.

I think I'm also tripping over the hierarchy of the room, if it makes sense. Both Enterprises have a space at the center of the room used for command/nav/conn. The outer ring has always been for aux stations. Voyager's got that too, with Nav / Command / Aux being in different distinct areas of the bridge. The Captain, and most important thing in the room, has always been at the center.

Here the Captain isn't centric to the bridge or even anywhere close to it. He's got an awkward position for being the most important person on deck- shoved off to the side instead of being at the center of things near the table. But yeah, it's too cramped in the command pit to give him an actual chair where he's facing the front view screen.

That's why this feels more like a shuttle operation center than a bridge. The most important thing in the room, at it's center, isn't the commander and the direction of the craft... it's the shuttle control module and support stations. If the captain is here, he doesn't have his own chair.

I see your point @Norsehound, though I precisely wanted the Captain to be standing up while around the table, BSG style. Maybe having no Captain's chair at all, but rather a door to a Ready Room would be apt to what both you and
@cardinal biggles are suggesting? :)

Maybe it would be best to re-purpose this bridge concept into a little Starbase's Operations Center... I feel like most of the issues raised would be resolved that way...

Some more work on the Belknap. The idea I had for the top of the consoles didn't quite work out as I intended, so I'm switching it to a retractable circuitry access panel covered in fabric, similar in function to those found 80 years later on the bridge of the Defiant. Though of course the inside circuitry would be quite different.

As for the Master Situation graphic, I went with an Enterprise-C style (again, signaling that 'lost era' aspect of this bridge, it's clearly not the first bridge module the Belknap had). The other stations will keep the existing graphics, but for this one I wanted to kinda show the beginning of the MSD that would become so prevalent by the 24th century.

I've also changed the carpet color to a much deeper blue, I felt the bridge was looking quite desaturated.

That's what I think.

That, or you could try expanding the floor space on the outer ring. It could be wide enough that another raised command dais could be there for the captain, and maybe one or two specialists (TNG style) to sit and "preside" over the bridge. I just think it's too small as it is. Maybe an experiment for the Valkyrie herself, with a standing commanding officer, that just didn't catch on when the captains feet ached.

Honestly when I first glanced at it, that's what I thought. It makes sense because since a space station isn't going anywhere there's no need for the stations to be pointed in a particular direction. (I know direction is relative in space, but you know what I mean). That, or again, a sub-level of the Constellation given over extensively to shuttle operations.

Really like this side of the lost era you're doing. Too much of it is on the TNG side of things, i rather like this take on the TMP stuff.

Ditch the captain's chair, and turn the center segment of that back wall into their ready room door. Maybe for some balance with the dedication plaque, have a static graphic of the ship (like near the TOS Enterprise's turbolift) on the half-segment on the port side of the bridge.

Well I did say this would make for the basis of a great Epsilon IX type Ops Centre... :D

Put a standing console with a big sign in big, black letters that says "CO ONLY" (figuratively speaking), and perhaps make the ready room door glass - he can see whats going on, he can be on the bridge within 3 seconds and know what's going on 3 seconds after that; but he's more of the station supervisor than the captain, if you know what I mean.
Take a look at modern supercarrier bridge decks for inspiration

That E-9 control center was such a bonkers design...

I've finished modifying the okudagrams for the Belknap, and I've further refined the helm console with some added details. I think I'm ready to call this one done... Thoughts?

As for the Valkyrie bridge, I'll probably repurpose it as the Ops center for the Regula-type Deep Space 5. ;)

Looks good to me. What does the rest of the room look like? Does it have the pull-out weapons station from the refit bridge, or did you do away with those?

This looks gorgeous! I love the style of those consoles. I wish we would have seen a bridge like that in one of the movies.

Whoa, this is awesome and positively drool-worthy! I'd love to see more of your work brought to life like that. :techman:

Oh, missed alot! Congrats on finishing! and the small bridge looks good!
An Idea on the Valkyrie bridge. Where to put the Captains chair, here are a couple of layouts :)

I love that helm/nav console, it's a real nice transition between the late movie console and the TNG stand-alones. It also reminds me of the one on the Shenzhou.

Agree, its not those Tng consoles, but not the single big one either, very nice! Here's an Idea, maybe do an excellsior bridge, one that has been refit in say.. 2311, or 2325, Lost Era, comebine old and new :)
I've had thoughts of doing bridges, but I do alot of 3d printing as of late, so little time to make pretty pictures.. but may do it :)
Looking excellent!
