RTD should take over. I bet he'd do a bang up job. I hear he likes Doctor Who.

I really want to see Chibnall's five-year plan play out, but I'll bite.
Alan Moore, Grant Morrison & Neil Gaiman as co-showrunners with Gaiman acting as the buffer to prevent the other two from killing each other.
Or the nearest affordable Whovian equivalent: Lawrence Miles with Lance Parkin acting as the buffer to prevent him from verbally assaulting...everyone.

Bring back Philip Hinchcliffe! He produced the single greatest season of Doctor Who (aka season 14) and he still has some great ideas, as clearly indicated by his recent work with Big Finish.

I would like to see it go back to the old system where the show-runner is not the lead writer. You have a show-runner then have a Script Editor to over see the writers. This way the show-runner can just worry about producing the show and not be bogged down with having to write most of the scripts for it, and vice-versa.

Yup. RTD and Moffatt also did both roles and scripts were adversely impacted as a result.
Gaiman is too much fantasy, and as much as "The Doctor's Wife"c was pretty darn cool does anybody really want a season loaded with the TARDIS calling her thief "sexy" all the time? Then again, what made that episode work made up for the needless, self-indulgent sexualization... But the show needs to be a little more sci-fi and a little less magic sonic wand waving. If the show has to be a cheaply written and witless Harry Potter clone then just watch Harry Potter instead, unless they take some of what made Harry Potter work and truly innovate on it to make it its own and that hasn't happened, it just looks like a cheap knock-off.
Chibnall is on the right track with style and feel, even if the scripts are a mixed bag. The story flow is good but uninvolving because everybody demands standalone episodes with no cliffhangers where tension can be built up - and that only occurred to me last night as, for the first time in months, I rewatched some Hartnell and it dawned on me. And most of NuWHO's best stories have, you guessed it, multiple parts. That explains most of the problem. A lot of ideas this season were underwhelming but they weren't off the rails - even if the the lead-in to the next story from the first story (e.g. TWWFTE->TGM) wasn't kept. And although some dialogue was embarrassing, and wouldn't have worked if made in the 1960s either, I'm amazed nobody caught it. But they got more of it right in the 1960s, right down to checking atmospheric indicators before leaving the ship. Lastly and arguably most importantly, why is Whittaker playing it as if she did nothing more than watch studio rehearsal sessions of David Tennant and thinking doing it the same (sonic joke and all) will work, in a show about a lead character that can change, keep audiences around for more than 3 weeks?

Paul Cornell with David Warner's Doctor and Lisa Bowerman's Bernice Summerfield as his companion? Oh, my fuck; yes!!!
Maybe as a head writer in the head writer separated from showrunning producer scenario, but there's no way BBC would hand over the reins to someone with no showrunning experience.
