I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he said he wasn't interested being the showrunner.
What about Paul Cornell? Don't think he's ever been a show runner before but he's written scripts for things and seems to know the basics of Who. He's gotten a fairly good track record for nu-who, seems to be liked enough in comics and has ties to Big Finish.
Yeah, Whithouse has said he's not interested in running a show he didn't create. Indeed, a few years back BBC tried to get him to be a "temporary showrunner" for a year or so to give Moffat a break, but he didn't go for it.I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he said he wasn't interested being the showrunner.
I seriously doubt there are many who want the job following the absolute rampant hostility and toxicity that some fans have levelled at this series. Seriously, saw one person complain that both Yaz had no characterisation in Resolution AND that they spent too much time on characterisation for Ryan as it turned the show into a soap opera. One criticism was levelled at the Doctor not remembering exactly how long a Rel was described and I quote "A slap into the face for long-time fans", but I guess it was okay for Eleven to forget the Great Intelligence and Twelve to forget about clockwork robots. The writers "forgetting" Yaz is a police officer, despite at least three times we've seen her go straight into copper mode, and Rory gets a pass even though he was mentioned being the Last Centurion more times than it was mentioned he was a nurse.
I cannot imagine being the showrunner when all you get is criticism for either rehashing old stuff or trying something new and being dragged over the coals for NOT rehashing the old stuff.
Nah.. comes with the territory. Any big named property is gonna have it's fans that dislike something, or love one thing, but hate something else, and because effectively each series is different, what would work in one season with one show runner and Doctor, may not work in another with an entirely different ensemble. Besides, anyone and everyone has a right to dislike aspects of the show, without some over arching agenda or evil bone in their body directing their dislike. Criticism is a part of everyday life, and more so something as controversial as Season 11 has been. So I think anyone who takes the show on as showrunner, will need thick skin and not be sensitive and let criticisms get them down, tho you wouldn't know the criticism from the compliant and favourable Media that drones on and on about how wonderful the show is. I can't see Chibnall really getting wind of fan backlash, considering everywhere you look in media, they say this show is the best thing since sliced bread. laughable, but I am sure they have no real clue. Bubbles exist for a reason, and I am sure the showrunner and lead actors/actresses are insulated pretty well given their shills in access journalism. Radio Times.. and so on. So really, I can't see any fans complaints bothering them, nor would they take an interest to address them or make any changes. It would take a consistent ratings drop before they paid attention.. Oh wait?? Didn't that happen..?? Hmm.. they probably just wrote if off as "Toxic" fans.. I am pretty sure of that.
Can we just hope that all toxic fans all disappear?
Sigh....being inclusive is dead I'm afraid..now exclusive is the banner of the day. Judging by these comments. Its not healthy to wither a fan base, but I guess weeding out long term fans in favour of those with a particulat viewpoint is more desirable. So yea! Lets see how that works out. Doctor who is made for a select audience now, and not everyone. Good call..
