Daredevil season 3 Marvel/Netflix

They released the same statement on their website.
https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/an-update-on-marvel-s-daredevil

I'm so confused. Are they hinting at future MCU (TV and/or movie) appearances by Charlie Cox Daredevil or a re-cast (possibly rebooted) Daredevil? Cox has earned his place in the MCU. His blind acting/stunting alone is on point. It's not easy to play a blind guy that can kinda/sorta see with soundwaves who also pretends to be straight up blind while in his secret identity persona. And try doing that shit during an unmasked, stunt heavy 11 minute oner.

If Disney has Daredevil never show up again, I'll be disappointed. If Disney has Darevdevil show up and he isn't played by Charlie Cox, I'll be fucking pissed.

The only thing that gives me hope is Charlie Cox is contractually obligated to appear as Daredevil in movies because of the show. Maybe this was the plan all along, hey Netflix, see if there's interest and develop these and you'll get to keep everything you make but we're only renting you the characters until we are ready for them elsewhere.

Where did you hear he was contractually obligated to appear in movies? I've never seen that mention anywhere.

Towards the bottom.
What would the likelihood be of Matt Murdoch turning up in other Marvel shows and films?

[Charlie grins]

It’d be great. I’ve read Civil War now, I’ve read The New Avengers, I know he’s in there but I think I missed the boat on Civil War because they’re filming that. I don’t know, Marvel have not mentioned that to me at all. It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again. And I get to do The Defenders at some point.

That sums up my feelings precisely.

Huh, I don't remember ever seeing that before.

Just as a clarification, he's not contractually obligated to appear in films; his contract simply has a provision in it to cover the possibility of appearing in films should Marvel Studios want to go that route with the character.

I really, really, really hope that that's where they're headed. Either a new series on on Hulu (They've said that Disney+ will be family friendly, and they now own 66.666% of Hulu.) or appearances in the movies. Even if it's as a Hulk/Nick Fury-style recurring character without solo movies of his own.

Between the "We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future." bit of the statement and the "Justice Never Stops" caption on the image, that's what they have to be getting at, right?

Or has 2016+ somehow not quite killed all of my misplaced naive optimism.

I read it on the wikipedia entry on the Daredevil series, which is not written in stone and it appears to be gone now.

So you have the same experience but lack sympathy? :wtf:

No one is every sympathetic when shows I like are cancelled or basically die, so I don't feel bad for anyone. Especially the people who thought DD Season 3 was anything but a giant FU to both the character and the people who liked the first two seasons. Marvel's Netflix stuff in general needs to die in my opinion, so something better might come from the properties, or at the very least the money spent on them can possibly go to better things.

Or, as people like to say to me when a show I enjoy is cancelled/replaced/dies: Why are you whining? Daredevil still exists, you can watch it on Netflix whenever you want.

Have you actually watched whole episodes of these shows, or are you just talking out of your ass again? I honestly don't know how could watch most these shows and talk like that. I could see not liking them as much as most other people, but this kind of response just baffles. I know I tend have very different tastes compared to a lot of people, but holy shit you take that to a whole other level.

I have watched all of: The First two seasons of Daredevil, the first 3 and a half seasons of Agents of SHIELD (skipping the Nazi half of season 3 because fuck Marvel's Tv and comic divisions turning good guys into nazis, in comics or TV format), The Flash Seasons 1-3 and currently watching 5 (Seasons 1-2 being my favorite live action superhero television ever), Legends of Tomorrow Seasons 1-2 and half of three (Season 1 was really fun, Season 2 and 3 are fucking awful), Arrow Seasons 1-3 and 5 (Season 1 and 2 were great, and 5 was decent), etc. So, yeah, I'm not talking out of my rear.

I loved The Flash before it decided to try to ruin all the DC characters that post season 1 Legends wasn't ruining, along with ejecting all attempts at a good or coherent plot. I enjoyed Agents of SHIELD a lot (minus the first 8 episodes and Fake SHIELD subplot) before it went full nazi and then ripped off the soap opera Dallas (but with time travel instead of dreaming). I really enjoyed Arrow before it became Felicity and Oliver quit being Green Arrow 3 times an episode. I thought Legends of Tomorrow was great before it dropped all the good characters (except Mick, who even Legends cannot ruin) and murdered the very concept of the JSA before then becoming a pointless stoner comedy with the worst writing possible. Then there is daredevil, which I really, really enjoyed before it ruined Kingpin and Bullseye (I even forgave it for ruining Elektra in Season 2).

The only show that I mentioned that I didn't watch much of was Agent Carter, because I don't need a 20 hour documentary about misogyny in the 50s (I agree that it is bad and happened, but things like Thor exist in this universe, so maybe Peggy can just...not have to deal with assholes and pretending to be a fucking secretary to shitheads? Or at least only do that for an episode or two, not basically every episode for two seasons). That show got two episodes then dropped.

Not mentioned in my post, but I've also watched (mentioning only superhero shows that I watched at least one full season of, and that came out in the last few years): Jessica Jones Season 1 (everything was terrible except David tennant), Luke cage Season 1 (pretty good except for a mid season slump, but Season 2 didn't grab me after an episode so I never kept going), Defenders (complete shit), Supergirl Seasons 1-2 and part of 3 (Season 1 was shit, 2 was good and 3 is ok from what I watched), Gotham Seasons 1 and 2 (Its a crap adaptation but entertaining in a batshit crazy kind of way, although I never did go past Season 2), The Gifted (ok season 1, stalled on season 2) and Black Lightning Season 1 (a good show until that bullshit with the school board that made me decide to never even watch a clip of the show ever again). I also watched a few episodes of some of the really, really bad shows like Legion, Runaways, and probably one or two more that I'm blanking on right now.

When they were good, I was such a huge fan of shows like Daredevil and The Flash, and when they basically killed themselves with hack writers/producers/etc, I got pissed. So, I have no sympathy for Daredevil fans. Basically every superhero show I loved is gone, including Daredevil a full season before it officially died. So, cry me a river. At least Marvel might bring Daredevil back, while I'll never get to see stuff like the original Legends of Tomorrow or pre-Nazi Agents of SHIELD ever again, they're deader then Firefly at this point. At most some of the shows might get slightly less crap for a season (like Arrow having a good season 5 before becoming shit again, or The Flash season 5 being surprisingly good if you ignore Fake Elongated Man), but thats not a guarentee and based on how arrow went its only a temporary return to being decent.

According to Forbes, the Disney+ streaming service is indeed the reason why Netflix is canning all their Marvel shows.

Those arguments are all logical as far as they go, but they underline the disturbing monopolistic (or monopsonistic, or both) trend in modern media, where the distinction between the creators of content and the distributors of content is ceasing to exist and thus there are growing disincentives for distributors to offer anything that isn't from their own corporate masters.

So basically, you are talking out of your ass. You gave up on all of these show ages ago, and have refuse to give the another them another try, even though they have all massively improved in the last few years.
I'm really struggling to wrap my around someone actually thinking the first season of Legends of Tomorrow is the best. I enjoyed at the time, but it is the series worst season by a very large margin. We're basically talking about the difference between MCDonalds (Season 1) and a 5-star restaurant (Seasons 2+).

Eh. LoT season 2 was an improvement, but not a huge one. I hung around to the end of it still waiting for the show to actually get some decent writing and maybe grow out of some of the serious issues that have plagued all the berlanti related shows, but it never did. Neither did Supergirl season 2 or Flash season 3, so eventually the point came where it made sense to just stop watching the Berlantiverse altogether. And between the lengthy chance I already gave them and how many people have consistently tried to talk up Arrow in general (which has been absolutely awful every time I tried to watch it, including all the crossover events and in season 2, which people kept telling me was the best), I wouldn't really take anyone's word that they got better, either. Sometimes it feels like half the genre fans I talk to have this bizarre blind spot when it comes to the CW shows that apparently throwing a few charismatic actors on the screen somehow makes up for a complete and total lack of any logical consistency or consistent characterization whatsoever.

Arrow has improved some lately, but it is IMO the weakest of the bunch.

I wish articles like this would clarify if this is opinion or based on any inside knowledge. Looking at it, it looks like opinion. It doesn't claim inside sources or anything like that. It's certainly plausible, but it seems like plausible speculation.

If Disney+ has something to do with it, there are two possible explanations: This is Disney's doing (they made things more difficult for Netflix, demanded higher money, etc.). If this is the case, it will become clear quickly because it would mean Disney wants to continue the show themselves. I don't think this is the case and I haven't seen anyone suggest it was.

Alternatively, the suggestion is Netflix did this because Disney is a streaming competitor. Frankly, the argument can run either way. Netflix might not want the shows because it might serve as a marketing for the Disney brand and the Disney streaming service. But I could see the precise opposite: Having Marvel shows on Netflix dilutes Disney's brand and undermines their own streaming network. Think about it this way, if you want to watch Marvel television but can only afford one streaming service, you would pick Netflix if Daredevil is your favorite Marvel show. If Netflix no longer has any Marvel shows, those individuals no longer have any incentive to subscribe to the service. I'm almost in that boat. I don't watch Netflix regularly enough to justify the cost and I'd at least consider unsubscribing once all the Marvel shows have been cancelled.

Netflix spitefully cancelling these shows due to Disney's impending entry into the streaming space doesn't really make sense considering that the top 4 of the big six media companies were already their competitors in the overall pay tv industry. Time Warner (now ATT owned Warner Media) owns HBO & Cimemax, which refused to license HBO content to Netflix- but happily did so to Amazon Prime, yet their studio Warner Bros sells several shows to NF, ie, Fuller House, Chilling Adv of Sabrina, Longmire, and picked up Lucifer after Fox cancelled it... Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM were the founding owners of the Epix pay channel (Lionsgate now owns Starz, selling their stake in Epix to MGM, who's now it's sole owner). Lionsgate owns Netflix original Orange is The New Black. Paramount produced recent NF series Maniac and Haunting of Hill House.

Since guessing is all we can do, the assumption I keep leaning towards is that Disney is deliberately topedoing things by demanding a higher license fee that they know Netflix wouldn't agree to, forcing Netflix to walk away. Does the network/distributor cover the cost of pre season work by the writing staffs or does the studio? If Netflix knew they would not be renewing IF, LC, & DD, why would they allow work to commence on tne latter two, if they had no intent to proceed? This is what has me casting the side eye at Disney/Marvel TV.
