Finally Watching Discovery - Was I Supoosed to Hate This?

Yesterday, I finally saw "The Vulcan Hello."

Overall, the bones seem to be good, although bald HemQuch, in an era when most Klingons encountered by Humans are QuchHa' . . . and Klingons not simply taking the bodies out with the trash . . . .

Do I correctly understand that the lone broadcast consisted of "The Vulcan Hello," cliffhanger ending and all?!?

Yes, that was the one and only Broadcast episode. ANd for many of us it was on late due to a ballgame running over long. Also HemQunch and QuchHa re not a canon thing.

Traditions change, and the Klingon culture is not homogeneous.

Spock even refers to a Klingon mummification glyph in Star Trek 4, so it is canon that at one point in their history that they didn't consider the bodies to empty shells.

There is a later episode in the season where another Klingon treats bodies like they're nothing. Though that might be more of him not respecting them

You weren't, but you will.

You will...
You don't know them.

Those are the worst 'golf claps' I have ever seen!
:nyah:

Ah. The giants.

Like anything else regarding Trek, some of them are absolutely brilliant, some are absolute garbage.

One of the reasons I was surprised that Discovery did nothing for me was because I had enjoyed several of Kirsten Beyer's Voyager novels.

Well, to be fair she only wrote a single episode of DSC.
I don't know how much she contributed to the other episodes of the season..

She seems to be the lead on the Picard show though.

I consider myself a fairly serious Trek nerd and I don't even know what those terms are.
QuchHa' means "unhappy ones" referring to those affected by the augment virus. HemQuch means "the proud forehead", that one should be obvious.

It came up in the books and comics for Human looking a redesigned Klingons. As fans and books tried to tied the two looks together in place of simply accepting the redesign

Those terms came up in the books after the Enterprise Season 4 aired IIRC, and the writers are not allowed to ignore the canon, so they have to acknowledge the difference because the show did.

She was on the writing staff for the entirety of it, so I can't believe she didn't have input on the final product.

Books make new stuff and ignore the shows all the time. Luckily they never got used on screen so we can ignore them. I am hoping DSC removed the ENT retcon, it seems they have. But if not, I am interested in the hybrid redesign for sure.

They can bring new stuff sure, but they can't change the existing canon drastically. They can't contradict that there were fatheaded Klingons during the TOS Era.

They could ignore them, but they can't say they didn't exist.

They've already referenced Archer and the NX-01. They won't remove the ENT retcon. Most likely, they'll just not refer to it. Or we'll find out AshVoq is another way to make TOS Klingons. Or at least secret agents like Darvin.
