I think Who gets away with it more due to not really being set anywhen while Trek did sometimes suffer due to being set in the twenty whatever century and doing an episode set in our past. It felt like this isn't what we signed up for. Not that I'm complaining outright as I did enjoy some of them. I recall little green men being a decent giggle. Though I could be wrong.^ Fair enough. I must admit I never liked the history or ‘Earth’ stories in Trek either. Not sure why.
I'm not sure if I like the earth based stuff more or the space stuff more. I just know I like the Doctor being zanny and funny and even kind of a snob or someone that is hard to relate to because they are a alien and more complex than us humans. The Doctor has way more experience and is way smarter than humans. That would naturally make anyone seem kind of alien to a regular human being. Whitaker has shown this at times when been allowed to. I want to see more of it from her. My favorite stuff with her is still from the season opener. I mean she felt very active in that episode doing all sorts of things and things that are even hard to understand what she is doing. I want them to try and recapture that feeling with her.
Sometimes, there can be a little too much Guy, though Stalin would likely feel the same.390 million people lived in India before the partition.
A million dead is a bruised bottom.
I am personally very excited to read all the "Doctor Who has never been this anti-capitalist before!" in light of the thinly veiled Amazon storyline Sunday. I'm prepping my links to The Sunmakers and Androzani right now.
And if your family was part of the million, do you think you could find a way to sound less callous about it then? Not that it should require a personal connection to prevent you from being dismissive of the death of a million people.390 million people lived in India before the partition.
A million dead is a bruised bottom.
Half way through and the virtue signalling is heavy handed. It feels like history lessons with back patting.
390 million people lived in India before the partition.

Oh actually I used to love that show. I forgot all about it.^^^ I don’t mind it in my entertainment which is probably why I enjoyed ‘The Highlander’ series so much.
That's just it though these history lessons give rise to people lecturing each other like moral overlords. Who wants that in their entertainment? It's a TV show not a documentary.
Why can’t it be both? Why can’t it be both entertaining and offer something more thoughtful?
Do you really think there’s some moral legitimacy to racism and bigotry?
Maybe bigots SHOULD be lectured to.
