‘Agents of Shield’ most popular superhero show on TV

I'll probably watch them after I finish up one of the shows I'm watching now, Daredevil Season 3, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1 and The Last Kingdom Season 2.

Oh look, it is the most popular superhero show on TV.

Suck it, haters.
OK, that's damn near astonishing considering season six is still months away from airing. Is this the first time they've gotten a renewal this early? The last two felt like they came down to the wire for sure, but I don't recall what the circumstances were for season 2 or 3.

Is this a sign of confidence based on whatever is in the can so far for season six, or did ABC suddenly have a big hole in their schedule from some other show crashing and burning?

Fuck yes!

So did they actually kill off the Son of Coul then? I never saw the last handful of episodes of the last season, so I had just assumed they saved him at the last minute.

We're still two days out from the six month line, so to be safe
Last we saw Coulson he was terminal with only "days" left to live according to Jemma's assessment. He's spending them in Tahiti with May, and should be long since gone by the time Season 6 rolls around. I'm sure we'll see him from time to time in a flashback or dream sequence, but (barring Feige pulling a resurrection out of his ass in Avengers 4) Agents of SHIELD will be Coulson-less going forward.

I'm really fiending for season 6 now. Fuck this thread for giving me shitty feelings.

Some interesting thoughts from Deadline.
The timing of the early renewal is likely tied to the cast’s option coming up. Along with picking up the actors’ options, ordering Season 7 ahead of time would allow for the two shorter seasons to be filmed back-to-back, which helps to reduces costs.

When S.H.I.E.L.D.’s move to summer was announced in May, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey made it clear that Season 6 was not envisioned as a final one. “I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet,” she said back then. “We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing.”

While not a strong Live+same day ratings performer, S.H.I.E.L.D. has excelled in on-demand viewing.

I think it was one that I watched pretty regularly on Hulu and the ABC app/website.
I'm pretty shocked it's getting another season, I had just assumed 6 would be the end.

And as for Coulson, Buffy fans know that this wouldn't be the first time that a Whedon brother has killed off a show's main character in a fifth season finale only to bring the character back and go seven seasons.;)

Well, Buffy's fifth season was its worst in my opinion, and Buffy Season 6 turned out to be my favorite...

Yeah, no. Maybe if it was Joss Whedon and not the Whedon that likes to turn people into Nazi's and has an apparent obsession with the soap opera Dallas, the show might turn things around. But with Jed you're more likely to have Fitz become a pedophile or Coulson get resurrected as literally Frankenstein. It depends on whether the producers decide to be lazy or offensive. heck, maybe the next season will be literally be a dream (like how the last one was as pointless and inconsequential as one), so he can do both. Pedo Fitz vs Frankencoulson. Also, everyone will die except Mack, the one who deserves to die.

Thread is too pedantic and contentious. Needs more pics of Daisy looking fine.

Wow, she looks great!

I haven't read ABC saying why the show was renewed. So I'm wondering if any consideration might have been given to the Parrot study, or perhaps a similar study, to come to the conclusion that AoS is a lot more important to the network than previously thought.

Regardless, this is great news.

Also just read that ABC just replaced the head of programimg so I'm glad this announcment had already been made.

While the 'live' viewing ratings have been less than stellar, what has spared the show has been it's delayed dvr views which have boosted it's overall numbers, combined with sales to networks overseas and it's US reruns licensed to Netflix. Much like The CW, its the money the shows help rake in beyond their network's borders for their sister studios, that help justify continuing them.

I feel I'm the only one not surprised. When they announced it would be a summer show, they specifically said they wanted it to last for seasons to come and that the summer would help them do that since the show does much better in delayed viewings than live viewings. People who assumed it was a final season were ignoring that.
