OK, that's damn near astonishing considering season six is still months away from airing. Is this the first time they've gotten a renewal this early? The last two felt like they came down to the wire for sure, but I don't recall what the circumstances were for season 2 or 3.Oh look, it is the most popular superhero show on TV.

So did they actually kill off the Son of Coul then? I never saw the last handful of episodes of the last season, so I had just assumed they saved him at the last minute.
we are not. We know absolutely nothing about what season 6 is going to be about. Just about all we do know, is that Clark Gregg is directing two episodes. Are we sure Clark Gregg isn't in the new seasons ?
The timing of the early renewal is likely tied to the cast’s option coming up. Along with picking up the actors’ options, ordering Season 7 ahead of time would allow for the two shorter seasons to be filmed back-to-back, which helps to reduces costs.
When S.H.I.E.L.D.’s move to summer was announced in May, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey made it clear that Season 6 was not envisioned as a final one. “I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet,” she said back then. “We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing.”
While not a strong Live+same day ratings performer, S.H.I.E.L.D. has excelled in on-demand viewing.
People have been shocked that it's going to get another season ever since they renewed it for the second season.I think it was one that I watched pretty regularly on Hulu and the ABC app/website.
I'm pretty shocked it's getting another season, I had just assumed 6 would be the end.
Wow, that's a wonderful turnaround from the season six renewal where we were waiting on pins and needles all through season five and after, until it was finally confirmed. Sounds like ABC has faith in the show's new time slot in the summer. I knew that was going to be a good move.Oh look, it is the most popular superhero show on TV.

And as for Coulson, Buffy fans know that this wouldn't be the first time that a Whedon brother has killed off a show's main character in a fifth season finale only to bring the character back and go seven seasons.![]()
She just revealed her season 6 look, and I don't think she's ever looked better.Thread is too pedantic and contentious. Needs more pics of Daisy looking fine.

While the 'live' viewing ratings have been less than stellar, what has spared the show has been it's delayed dvr views which have boosted it's overall numbers, combined with sales to networks overseas and it's US reruns licensed to Netflix. Much like The CW, its the money the shows help rake in beyond their network's borders for their sister studios, that help justify continuing them.I haven't read ABC saying why the show was renewed. So I'm wondering if any consideration might have been given to the Parrot study, or perhaps a similar study, to come to the conclusion that AoS is a lot more important to the network than previously thought.
