Bad Robot add 6 films to upcoming slate. None of which are Star Trek :(

It's garbage too. I would rejoice if it ended as well.

I was happy when Enterprise ended. I'm happy that JJTrek has ended. and I'll be happy when Discovery ends.

I'll be sad when we get some real Star Trek that ends.

Why specifically?* I'm not attacking anyone. I gave respectful answers to people who asked me questions and defended my opinion when it was called "shit".

There was nothing here indicating that this thread was only for supporters of JJTrek. I posted a respectful comment voicing my opinion. In all my comments I never disparaged anyone for liking the JJTrek films.

If this thread is just for people who like JJtrek films then that's fine, but that should have been made known in the OP.

I take a 4th Kelvin movie over any amount of Discovery. But it looks like this is where I go to the blurays entirely until something better comes along.

 

Well, my problem is that you've come on here knocking the new films without actually having seen them, which is an utterly ridiculous position to take and undermines any argument you may have from the get go.

Then, if that wasn't bad enough you start slating enterprise and discovery in a pretty non-constructive and shitty way.

It just comes across as trolling.

 

I'll never understand how less of Star Trek is a good thing. Good and bad are highly subjective in this case.

In any case, the fact that Bad Robot moved on disappoints me to no end because I appreciated the hard work they put in to a franchise that had such history. To step in the way that they did and impact the franchise is quite a feat, to my mind.

 

On the bright side maybe that means Paramount will contract with someone else to continue making Star Trek movies. It's the gem in their crown, even if they haven't figured out how to sell it properly. Or barring that, maybe they'll just sell the franchise back to CBS if they're not going to use it, anyway.

 

^^This. And also, there are different sub-set's of forums on here about the different trek series. If you don't like and have never seen the Kelvin films, fine, go hang out in General Trek or TOS trek, but yes this is the "Star Trek Movies: Kelvin Universe " forum. So why would anyone be in here in the first place if you've never seen them and categorically don't like them, other than to troll.

 

The saddest part for me is while I found Star Trek 2009 to be "ok" (6/10), and Into Darkness to be god awful (3/10), I thought Beyond (7/10) had righted the ship, so to speak. Yeah, overall the movie is kinda generic, but the devil is in the details. Beyond felt more like Star Trek than just "action movie in space." They got the characters and tone right.

It also ended all the main plot threads from 1,2, and 3, and sent the crew off on a brand new Enterprise which hopefully would have led to brand new adventures. While the Kelvin films haven't been amazing up until now, there's no reason a soft reboot...new adventures aboard the 1701-A, couldn't have improved. The cast has always been great, it's the writing that's been lacking. I wanted a Star Trek 4 to see what they could do after having fixed what I didn't care for in Beyond.

 

I don't think it undermines it at all. How does my actual viewing of the films change anything. I know what the main plot elements are. I know the major issues the films have. How is viewing them going to change that? If I knew absolutely nothing about the films then, yes your point would make sense. But I know quite a lot.

Though I didn't just bring up Discovery out of nothing. I was asked about Discovery by King Daniel Beyond, "What about Discovery, though?"

I rarely come to this forum. I posted in this thread because I wanted to voice my thought on the subject. I'm glad there are no more plans for JJTrek films. I didn't come here to make a big long argument about this. I'm fine if nobody agrees with me, but at least respect my opinion. I haven't called anyone's opinions shitty and I would expect not to have my own opinion called shitty.

Off topic, I too have gotta call out the weirdness of not even having watched the movies but hating them so passionately. Having an opinion is fine, but I feel like watching at least one of the movies in order to make an informed decision is valid. Also, if one dislikes them so much, why go out of your way to come into the section of the forum dedicated to those movies just for the purpose of saying that? It's certainly deliberately provocative to do so. Enjoy what you enjoy by all means, but it's unnecessary to shit over other people's enjoyment, especially of some thing you profess you've never given a chance and never will. Just live and let live, folks.

On topic, this news *is* disappointing, though, sadly, not unexpected. Three films is a good innings, but as @King Daniel Beyond suggests, I think these movies and these characters do have some loose ends, and it would be nice to see them sewn up.

 

I'm happy to have had the first two films (the third is unremarkable in my opinion), and to imagine that an alternate universe was spawned is great. But it looks like the future of Trek is with Discovery and related spin-offs, and I'm OK with that. Some Trek is better than no Trek.

Maybe the 4th movie will come in 10+ years, when the cast has aged to the point of TWOK, and we have a new reflection on aging and their sense of place in the altered timeline.

 

Honestly I am not sure why Star Trek should be mentioned in that article. As far as I understand it, the text is about newly acquired projects and projects in very early development. As far as we know the next Star Trek movie is already in preproduction and not a "new" project like the other projects mentioned in that article.

So in conjunction with Star Trek that article does not worry me. I think we will just have to wait and see what happens with the next Star Trek movie.

You just said it was 'garbage' and would 'rejoice' if it ended. It's one thing just slating something as garbage with no constructive criticism of the show whatsoever, but to rejoice if it ended? Please. That's just provocative.

You haven't even given an opinion for anyone to respect. The words 'garbage' and wishing things would end are not opinions. If I don't like a particular film or show at the very least I'd watch it to form an opinion about it, I certainly wouldn't come on these boards saying I'm wishing it to end. Here's an idea, how about explaining why you don't like these shows and films so we can debate their merits - this is a Trek forum after all no?
