Is Voyager Heavily Underrated?

Underrated or overrated? It is like every other Trek prior to Discovery (which the jury will be out on for a while), very hit or miss. Some of it is good, some of it isn't.

Look at The Orville, which is basically Voyager with Family Guy humour...

It really, really, really isn't.

There are some standout excellent voyager episodes that hold up with the best of trek overall. Same with DS9 and TNG. It's just people remember the worst of voyager more than say TNG.

I don't know. I've watched all of Voyager and I can't remember any specifically bad episodes. Even Theshold isn't too bad until the end. I feel it's more that people remember general bad things about Voyager. When I hear people discussing bad things about Voyager, it's always those broader issues. When discussing bad things about TNG, it's always individual episodes.

Or Troi.

Based on "Fair Haven" and "Spirit Folk" alone, the entire series and every copy should be dumped in the Sun. :p

Maybe the fact these don't stand out as particularly bad or good kinda indicate how I feel about the series.

Actually, I tell I lie. There's is one Voyager episode that sticks out as particularly bad: Q and the Grey.

As far as episodes that really stand out, only Year of Hell and Blink of an Eye come to mind.

Personally, I am a fan of most of the Borg stuff they did, and am fond of "The Thaw" and "Death Wish".

I thought the Borg stuff was okay, but I got really bored of it. Seemed like Voyager relied on the Borg too much after the success of First Contact. I kind prefered them 'pre-assimilation' as a threat.

I did not enjoy the Borg stuff so most of the Borg episodes I regard as a negative. They overhyped the Borg and then a single Starfleet ship with no resources defeats them again and again. It strains my suspension of disbelief.

I think that is my main thing with VOY. Sure, I can point out bad episodes (Fair Haven, Tattoo, Blood Fever) but its more that it pushed up against my suspension of disbelief far more than I was comfortable with.
Something Vulcans know nothing about...
Amazing. That is 100% wrong.

I have a thing against Riker, which is his dumb smile when he thinks was clever just now, like “Gee, I’m funny! Ha, ha!”

I always try to rationalise it away by assuming Seven gave them an incredible amount of inside information about all the hidden Borg vulnerabilities. But yeah, it's a bit of a stretch that a single Fed ship, and not even of a particularly heavy class, prevails where entire fleets from Starfleet have failed before.

Im not crazy about several of the Borg episodes, but I do like the ones who add a little twist to the formula like Unity and Survival Instinct.

There are several Voyager episodes that I would put into the very good to great category:

Distant Origin
Nemesis
Year of Hell
Prey
Living Witness
Drone
Timeless
Counterpoint
Remember
Barge of the Dead
One Small Step
Muse
Someone to Watch Over Me
Blink of an Eye

All the girls come running.

It’s hard to believe that a female cast member could be in a romantic scene with him and not break out laughing.

I really need to go back and watch more TNG to see if my memory really matches reality, but when the "TNG cast is clique-ish" argument comes up, I really think it's centered mostly around Riker. If you're not part of his circle of friends, he really does treat people very differently.. and quite badly.

For a female romantic interest, that smile you talk about takes on this weird look that I guess is almost like a thought bubble ... "Game. On." If he feels threatened in any way by other officers, he seems to throw all decorum out the window and get downright petulant. Jericho, Shelby, Tom Riker, and Ensign Ro all come to mind there, though he does soften towards her later after Conundrum.
