Stewart does (or has in the past, not sure offhand if he still does) a one-man play of A Christmas Carol, and put out a recorded version of it in the '90s. I saw him do it in New York many years back.

I hope not . I think the Federation might be facing another existential threat from a Borg-like race (not necessarily the Borg), but in the end, Picard will once again save the day.
That's an interesting idea, however my opinion is it won't happen in the Picard show but in a possible future Star Trek show that is set a few hundred years after the 24th century.

It would have to happen at some point. Civilizations rise and fall. A fall doesn't means it's completely gone but that it's greatly reduced to what it used to be. Any number of things and events (both natural and not-natural) could reduce the size of the Federation and do it insanely quickly as well. It's not a matter of if it happening but when because it always happens.
I always thought a game of thrones style power struggle between the Picard, Janeway and Sisko could be interesting. Thanks to some kind of new space travel the majority of the Galaxy is now part the Federation, so we get Picard and the alpha/beta quadrant v Sisko and the gamma quadrant resources v Janeway and the delta quadrant resouces. It would need to be very untrek to work though, so maybe a mirror universe full of blood and death.

I really want it to be the fall of Picard, as his iromodic syndrome destroys him. Messing with our perspective like Hannibal when Will was being drugged. And then of course something does come up and like "All Good Things" it's one last adventure....
As fit as Patrick Stewart is for his age, we can't look past the fact that he is 78. It will be difficult for him to play a more action-packed Picard without the generous use of stunt doubles. I'm very hopeful about this series as some of my favourite TNG episodes were ones where Picard was more than just a Starfleet captain. Think Redemption where he wass the Arbiter of Succession for the Klingons and Chain of Command or any other episode where he goes on covert missions.
