Discovery IS capable of going to multiple different realities. Technically it could hop into AbramsLand or wherever. This isn't necessarily the same future the show would technically have, if they went that far. They've been canny about that every time Star Trek has shown a future, its always just been a potential future that almost certainly doesn't work out exactly like it seems (Procyon V, All Good Things, The Visitor, etc)

I liked it much better than the first short Trek, it was also longer at around 18 minutes.

Good job writing the script by Michael Chabon, who is now working on Picard.

Never expected Betty Boop on Star Trek.

"Funny Face" and "The Court Jester" (which was on an ENT episode) are both Paramount movies, which I am sure is not a coincidence.

I wonder if they will introduce Zora in an actual Discovery episode. I like it better than Siri and Alexa already.

I just finished my Odyssey unit with my frosh this week. Well-timed, Short Treks.

Any guesses as to why Zora was ordered to "hold position"?

I loved this short episode. I am waiting for doomidiot to tell me why it is horrible.

Today he was busy telling people about an "Emergency" reshoot and a "Panicked" board meeting.

This was great! During the dance scene I just kept muttering, ‘this is so cool’. That the staff had the guts to do something like this speaks volumes for Kurtzman and his team.

Just a beautiful little story, poignant as can be. Yeah, little bit of Wall-e and a bit of “Her”, plus Betty Boop. What more could we ask?

Now THIS is the way to seamlessly and plausibly use 20th century cultural references in a way that doesn’t leave folks scratching their heads and asking “why?”.

Hope we see Aldis Hodge in a season 2 episode.

Paramount owns Betty Boop too, but, they've been known to let her work at other studios, before. Work's been slow since cartoons went to color.

That was a lovely and poignant story. I kept expecting things to turn sinister at some point, but was pleasantly surprised when they didn't. Even though she said she evolved over the thousand years, I hope they find a way to introduce Zora on the show.

I liked this one a lot better than the last. Had a nice tone and mood to it, both actors did well, and was just a nice quite contemplation of two characters. I'd give it a higher score if there was any meat under the bones, but it never dragged. I just wish this had been a full episode with some plot to drive it forward. As a vignette, however, it worked.

Any guesses as to why Zora was ordered to "hold position"?

I suspect this is key. I got the impression that it was waiting for something. Either the ship is hidden and needs to be in a known position to be retrieved, or else the crew needs to know where it will be for something like a long-distance (given the time involved, possibly very long-distance) teleport target. It's also possible this is simply a hint at how the show intends to make sure Discovery's systems remain "lost".

I only gave it a 7 because of so many questions - and we will probably never see this expanded on. If this were a pilot for a series I probably would have given it a 10.

In general it has a lot of emotion - better done than you really see in Trek (not forced at all).

Really liked both characters - yes kept expecting Zora to go all HAL on him.

The Zora character had unique emotion for a computer. While I don't really want to go 1000 years into the future of Trek, I really liked the whole feel of not even knowing if the federation even still existed. Also felt a little Andromeda like with such a high tech self-aware ship and an unknown future. (Andromeda became a bit of a mess - but I'm a big Kevin Sorbo fan … I wish they could get him a place in Trek).

Things are looking up for the Picard series if this is what we are to expect from the writing quality.

Would be really cool if they somehow this season had to hide Discovery to be retrieved … then retrieve her at end of season and find out Discovery has become self aware. Hopefully there is a storyline for this and its not just Zora is a dumb computer following meaningless orders. She seems smart enough to know there is a reason for those orders (she just wasn't going to share her true orders). Only other thing I could think is that at the end of the series they say they need to hide Discovery away as she is to dangerous a technology.

I'm sure she'll turn up in DISC at some point. They won't just introduce her in this short for nothing .

IMO the bigger question is the Federation's fate. Why did it fall? What events caused it? Would the DISC crew or someone from the new Picard series find out and try to prevent it by altering the timeline?

It's all intriguing to me. I guess we'll have to stay tuned for Season 2 and the Picard series to find out .

It does and since this writer is also doing the picard series I still expect a link. I wouldn't be shocked to see craft a crewmember on Picard's ship leading to how does he wind up here.

Unless he time travels then I doubt it.
That would be 858 years after the Picard show.
